Broken - starring Sean Bean - he won a well deserved BAFTA. Also Apparitions with Martin Shaw.
I guess these are both more mini-series than shows but I loved them both.

What is this fascination which “catholic television.” Wholesome programming with good moral vibes? you can find that anywhere. Programming that asks deep questions and provokes critical thought? Again anywhere.
No. I’m talking about programs that actually show Catholics and Catholicism in them. Boring? Maybe. But unlike other religions (except maybe Judaism), at least we can make fun of ourselves and laugh. God likes laughter.

One other show I like: Touched by an Angel.

The series opens with observation through a telescope, seeing the drug deal, and running down the perps–by the priest, who drags them to the parish border and throws them across with a warning not to return . . .
This shows the importance of parish borders, and how relevant the geographic boundaries were at least back in the day.

I liked the show Living Biblically that was on recently. It dealt with a lot of moral issues in a humorous way, and I thought the Catholic characters were portrayed very positively. It also was on while I was going through catechesis, so it really connected with me.

Also there used to be a sitcom from the '80s called ‘Just the Ten of Us’ about a Catholic family. The dad was a coach at a Catholic high school.

In terms of humor and stuff like that yeah. I’m very disappointed at the way they treat the religion though. Especially in season 3.

But as I was shocked to find, only in some regions.

Others had “national churches”. When I got to DuBois, PA, the Lithuanians built their church a block (the short side) from the Irish church, and the Poles built theirs about three blocks away . . . this was normal in some parts of the country.

While I could do without their occasional stabs at civil libertarians, I really like Blue Bloods! I rarely see Tinseltown be so nice to Catholics, lol!

None of these shows are overtly Catholic but contain themes of sin and its consequences, free will, and one’s openness to repentance or their persistence in sin and death.
This is why, I think, people who write off a show as trashy/not sufficiently wholesome if it contains adult themes do themselves a disservice. Sure, Breaking Bad has sex, violence, bad language, and centers around drug dealing. That doesn’t mean the show endorses any of that.

Oh yes! I love Dardevil and the Catholic vibe in it is strong.

One I love is the original miniseries of Brideshead Revisited with Jeremy Irons. I also love Breaking Bad. I think Breaking Bad shows the effects of mortal sin, of deliberately choosing to do evil better than almost anything I have ever seen.

I like your approach and agree with you. I call it watching a show through a “Catholic lens.” Some shows, I think, are pure trash. It depends on if they are trying to glorify or celebrate certain vices. But The Sopranos, for example, tried to show the consequences of the characters’ actions. I doubt any sane viewer was thinking, “yeah, I want to live this life!”
