“Morning has Broken” by Cat Stevens (recorded by many others as well, but his is the only version I’ve heard)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morning_Has_Broken

“The Parting Glass” by Shaun Davey/Liam Ó Maonlaí (from the movie Waking Ned Devine).

Have a listen here (for the lyrics, click “more” on the right hand side under “About This Video”):

youtube.com/watch?v=xDB87o-njFQ :irish3: It takes a minute or two for the lyrics to begin.

More to come, probably 🙂
Hey, you Zany redhead who loves reading! It seems to me that “Morning has Broken” is derived from a song attributable to Saint Patrick, maybe the music is ancient Irish, too? Twila Paris has a CD of wonderful inspirational songs…but it is Christian Genre, I guess. The music is amazingly varied but the words are meaningful and reverent. I had to listen to it repeatedly to be able to tolerate some of the instrumental accompaniment. How about Me and God by Josh Turner? Or, Long Black Train? Colmcille:confused:

Oh wow… all of these will be from Flogging Molly because it is my favorite band:
…
What’s Left of the Flag
“With madman’s rage they dug our graves/but the dead rise again, you fools.”

And other songs I won’t elaborate on: Grace of God Go I, If I Ever Leave This World Alive, and (No More) Paddy’s Lament.

Yep…I love Flogging Molly…
I also love Flogging Molly, even though I believe some of Dave King’s lyrics are actually speaking out against the Church

“If I Ever Leave This World Alive” is great as is “What’s Left of the Flag”, but I think my personal favorite is “Rebels of the Sacred Heart”

I would have to list mine as Dream Theater songs.
“Scarred” ‘Love heal me, fear change me, belief will always save me’

“Surrounded”
“Take The Time”
“Lines in the Sand”

I’d not heard this before, so I googled just now to see … and it would seem (based on Wiki, anyway) that it is indeed Celtic in origin: Scottish, to be exact:

“The lyrics[1] were written by Eleanor Farjeon in 1922 and are found in the hymnals of many denominations.[2] The original poem can be found in the anthology “Children’s Bells” under Farjeon’s original title A Morning Song (For the First Day of Spring), published by Oxford University Press in 1957. The tune to which it is normally sung is called “Bunessan”, based upon a Scottish Gaelic traditional melody. Before Farjeon’s words, it was used as a Christmas carol which began “Child in the manger, Infant of Mary”, translated from the Gaelic lyrics written by Mary MacDonald. [3] The English-language Roman Catholic hymnal also uses the tune for the hymn “This Day God Gives Me”.”

Very interesting, thanks for the tip 🙂 I had no idea!

I’m not familiar with any of these, unfortunately. Maybe I’ll have to keep an ear out for them, though 🙂

Everything - Lifehouse
Breathe - Lifehouse
Thousand mile wish - Finger Eleven

Jimi Hendrix - Angel

Black Sabbath - After Forever

Son House - John the Revelator

Blind Willie Johnson - Anything from album “Dark Was The Night”
I completely agree on the Black Sabbath song. Sabbath is one of the most misjudged bands of all time. Another uplifting song they did was “Symptom of the Universe,” from the “Sabbatage” album, probably their best album in my oppinion.

Here are some of my other favorite uplifting secular songs. Some of these may be a little obscure.

“The Eagle Will Rise again,” the Alan Parsons Project.
“New Horizons,” the Moody Blues.
“See You On the Other Side,” Ozzy Ozbourne.
“(I’ve Been) Searchin’ So Long,” Chicago.
“Fight the Good Fight,” Triumph.
“With Arms Wide Open,” Creed.
“The River of Dreams,” Billy Joel.
“Let It Be,” the Beatles.

There are several others too.

One song I still listen to with the windows shut is…Unborn Child…but also a favorite and in a sense theme of my life…'against the wind!" this completly describes ones life when the ten commandments is a goal ,not to be lampooned ,but to be a role model…always uphill and against the wind!
Oh yeah, there’s a song that you won’t find on a Seals & Crofts compilation. Also “Embryo” by Pink Floyd.

I can’t believe that no one has mentioned The Beach Boys! Catch a Wave, Barbara Ann, Good Vibrations, Kokomo, Little Deuce Coupe, California Girls, Fun, Fun, Fun, Help Me Rhonda, I Get Around and so on. It is simply not possible to be down when this music is playing.

Wasn’t “God Only Knows” controversial because of the use of the word “God”? By the way, Pet Sounds is amazing. 👍

I really like Social Distortion, When the Angels Sing and I Was Wrong. My brother says their depressing, but I like their stuff.
