Favorite video games?

Most of my favorite games were from the NES/SNES era (SMB, Zelda, FF, DW/DQ). About 25% of my Playstation collection are remakes and/or compilation of games from the SNES. A couple of games, I’ve only played once and never picked it up again.
 
Most of my favorite games are RPGs (J-RPGs specifically). Before my PS1 went bust, I played most of the Digimon World series and played up to the second disc of cousin’s copy of Final Fantasy VIII before he lost it.

Now I’m more of a Square-Enix dude. I haven’t played any other Final Fantasy series but my most favorite game in the world is the Kingdom Hearts series. Cheesy as this may sound but I kind of liked how it melded the classic feel of the Disney animated movies of my childhood with the mature seriousness of Final Fantasy.

I’m also a fan of the Tales of series (even though I’ve only played Tales of the Abyss :o). I’m also a regular player of Monster Hunter (the Japanese counterpart to World of Warcraft). 😃
 
I really love the Zelda games. My favorite in the series is probably Ocarina of Tume, closely followed by Twilight Princess.
Another series I really really like is Silent Hill. I do not however recommend it to everyone. It’s very violent and highly disturbing at times. It’s also very scary. But the storylines are really great, and I love all the puzzle solving.
 
Is Bad Company 2 too new for ya’ll? It’s a much better game than Modern Warfare 2. Vehicles, destructible environments, and different ways to customize your kit combined with different modes of play amount to lots of time wasted :D.

As much as the Zelda series will always have a special place in my heart, the greatest game of all time is Baldur’s Gate II. It was just … awesome! Pretty much anything Bioware touches turns to gold.
 
I’m a FFX fan. (I never played the others) but I am a huge fan of turned based fighting.:cool:😃

Also Mario Kart is the bomb 👍 For a girl who never had a system growing up this game I could pick up fast and beat people at.

For the PC my favorites are Heroes III Complete and Sim City (the old one, where you have to put in the code or disasters strike down your city). I generally enjoy a lot of the PC games Sim City.

My husband is the one who introduced me to FFX. He is a fan of Oblivion (PC), but I can’t play that one, I get motion sick. 😛
 
I lost count of the hours my brother, myself and a few friends would play Heroes III hot seat. Necropolis was always my team, and Sandro my hero… damn ghost dragons sucked though.

You should get your hubby (or yourself) to buy Heroes V, which is pretty much a graphical update of III.

I didn’t think anyone else knew about Star Tropics! I never heard of a sequel, but the original Star Tropics was so frustrating and HARD that I will never forget it; one of the hardest video games I have ever played.

The classics will always hold a special place because of their sentimentality. The original Mario Bros. series, Mega Man series, Zelda series. But now it’s all about Grand Theft Auto for me. But even the older GTAs like GTA3 and GTA Vice City. . .they’re not classics yet, but they’re getting there.

Well apparently SOMEBODY else liked them, because they are available to download in the virtual console area on my Wii 😃 And so I just downloaded them both. And yes, it’s HARD. I think it took both me and my Mom playing to beat it. But I like the bosses. There’s a really awesome one in the sequel (i think it was that one…) that’s a Pharaoh head.

Now I’m off to reminisce!

Dang, how could I forget Baldurs gate?!?!?!?! Awesome Game!!!

Also, DOOM the first was excellent! I would never have beat it without cheats.

And there was a turn based game in the early/mid 90’s that I never learned the name of… sadly… You grew in levels, like the later versions, dungeons and whatnot, but you moved in a grid with visibly gray squares that filled in with landscapes as you traveled. I have been trying to think of the name of that game for a long time… well, since the early 90’s when I played it for two months at my aunts house.

Shinobi has to rank as one of the greats… especially the master system port.

Ninja Gaiden > Shinobi

Hardest games…ever. Well, next to Battletoads that is. 😉

Ninja Gaiden was mostly only on NES(hence i never played it), Shinobi appeared on every system and computer at the time… as far as i recall it was the only one of Sega’s true classics that was even ported to Nes by a third party…
Shinobi was perhaps Master System’s finest game… It’s killer app. One of the greatest arcade ports of all time, alongside master system’s port of Double Dragon, which was also great.

Ocarina of Time has a special place in my heart.
On a more recent note, the Mass Effect series.
