What is your favourite bible passage? and why?

For me; Prodigal son, annunciation, Matthew 25 - last judgement and the 10 brides. All for the obvious reason, except for the last one. It’s because the 10 brides was the first bible passage that I know in my RCIA class 15 years ago and that’s the only passage that I remember the chapter for 14 years (till last year, when I decided to read bible often) 😃

That’s all I could think now.

Zephaniah 3:
14
Shout for joy, O daughter Zion! sing joyfully, O Israel! Be glad and exult with all your heart, O daughter Jerusalem!
15
The LORD has removed the judgment against you, he has turned away your enemies; The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst, you have no further misfortune to fear.
16
On that day, it shall be said to Jerusalem: Fear not, O Zion, be not discouraged!
17
The LORD, your God, is in your midst, a mighty savior; He will rejoice over you with gladness, and renew you in his love, He will sing joyfully because of you,
18
as one sings at festivals. I will remove disaster from among you, so that none may recount your disgrace.
19
Yes, at that time I will deal with all who oppress you; I will save the lame, and assemble the outcasts; I will give them praise and renown in all the earth, when I bring about their restoration.
20
At that time I will bring you home, and at that time I will gather you; For I will give you renown and praise, among all the peoples of the earth, When I bring about your restoration before your very eyes, says the LORD.

Isaiah 38:17
Behold, it was for my peace that I had great bitterness:
But you have in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption; For you have cast all my sins behind your back.

My favorite is Psalm 139:

O LORD, you have searched me and known me!
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.
You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it.

Where shall I go from your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.
If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,
and the light about me be night,”
even the darkness is not dark to you;
the night is bright as the day,
for darkness is as light with you.

For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there were none of them.
.
.
.
Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!

Psalm 37:3-6 (King James Version)

3Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

4Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

5Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

6And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

My favourites are:

Genesis 41-45 because I’m glad Joseph triumphed over his stupid brothers and its a really good story.

Psalm 136 because I actually wrote a hymn based on it, called ‘His Steadfast Love.’ (in the Catholic revised edition it says about how God’s love is steadfast.It uses a different word in some other versions)

All of Tobit because I love the story of how the Angel comes and goes on that amazing journey with Tobias.

Judith 13:6-10 because I like when Judith decapitates Holofernes and it made me laugh!

Jonah 2-4 because I think its very entertaining when they throw Jonah overboard and he gets eaten by a fish and its funny when he sits outside the city and complains.

Luke 2:41-52 because I like reading about Jesus’ boyhood.

Revelation 20-22 because it tells of how the evil shall be sent to live with Satan and the righteous shall live with Jesus.

They are just a few of my favourites- I havent finished the Old Testament yet.I love the Bible!!!:bounce: :bible1: :clapping:

Jeremiah 1:5 ( I think the reason is self explanatory)

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.
