Hiya 🌷

Does anyone have any book recommendations on the Jewish roots of the Mass?

Other book recommendations about how different elements became part of our liturgical story are also welcome.

Jewish roots:
Brant Pitre - Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist: Unlocking the Secrets of the Last Supper

The book of Revelation influence on Mass:
Scott Hahn - The Lamb’s Supper: The Mass as Heaven on Earth.

Thank you for those two recommendations! 🌷 I think someone months ago recommended the Scott Hahn to me, got lost in my mind fog!

Have you read them recently?

ā€˜How Christ said the First Mass’ by Fr. James Meagher. It was published in 1914 I think and is now reprinted by TAN Books.

It’s packed full of information on the Temple, the old Jewish sacrifices and the old and modern Passover celebrations, among other things. It shows how the Crucifixion and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass were prefigured throughout history.

I read The LambĀ“s Supper about a year ago. Well written and I would read it again. A very good introduction to the Mass and it’s roots in the Jewish traditions.

I will also recommend ā€œThe Lamb’s Supper,ā€ by Scott Hahn.

I read it on a week-end retreat, at a Trappist Monastery.

Sunday Mass was Heaven on earth,

Jim

Thank you all so much!

I will add them to my wish list on Amazon now, and they should be bought this quarter. šŸ“–

I went ahead and last night purchased Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist: Unlocking the Secrets of the Last Supper Paperback by Brant Pitre.

Again, thank you for the help!

I too recommend Scott Hahn’s The Lamb’s Supper (I have read it multiple times)
I also recommend the cd, The Mass Explained by Fr. Larry Richards. You can get it for free from the Mary Foundation. Forgive me that it isn’t a book but he explains it so well and simply. I have listened to it multiple times.
