Favourite Catholic Pope

Sainthood eh. You would have to think that Francis will be canonised one day.
 
I can’t think of a favourite one. Maybe St Peter?😀
My least favourite is Pope Stephen VI who conducted the cadaver synod. That’s pretty bad.
 
I’m going to leave St Peter out of this, because it’s not fair to their Popes… very hard to beat St Peter.

I’ve been alive during the reign of 5 Popes (starting with the end of Paul VI’s reign), St Pope John Paul II is my favorite by far of all the Popes I’ve been alive for.

I’m also a fan of Pius XII & Leo XIII
 
You’d think he would get on well with Pope Benedict? Similar views and communication style?
 
If you haven’t seen the movie “Pope John Paul II” staring Jon Voight as Pope John Paul II, Cary Elwes as His Holiness the entire time before he becomes Pope (so from his 20s though being a Cardinal), plus with James Cromwell and Christoper Lee as Cardinals. Great movie!

You may disagree with him, but it is against the rules to insult the Holy Father on this forum.

Leo the Great. The story of him meeting with Genseric the barbarian who was to sack Rome is amazing. Imagine, images of Sts. Peter and Paul over your shoulder. Awesome.

Clarification of above post. Leo met with Attila the Hun to attempt to dissuade him from sacking Rome. As legend has it, Attila acquiesced to Leo’s plea when he saw massive figures of either St. Peter or St. Paul (or both) over Leo’s figure, holding a giant sword.

Legend has it that Attila reconsidered that night in his camp and decided to attack and sack Rome the next day. He did not get to do so as he developed a massive nose bleed in the night and died.

Amazing story. Later Genseric did sack Rome but spared the Catholic cathedrals and the people from murder and rape at the behest of Leo.
 
Never ceases to amaze me, the amount of knowledge people have of events/history that happened so many years ago.
