I am a lightweight in this discussion, knowing very little about popes, but since you asked, Pope Francis. Someday I hope to have time to read about John Paul II and more (having already read some) about Benedict XVI.

Thank you for your sincere and honest reply. Seems people are very careful to not criticise even slightly, a Pope’s reign. As long as it is done with respect, (as you have done) I don’t see a problem.

Because it’d be anachronistic.

The title “Pope” did not come into use until the 3rd century.

(The Petrine Office was established by Jesus, but the title of Pope took a while to develop).

The Coptic Pope of Alexandria was actually the first Patriarch to use the title of “Pope.”

If you are interested, there a really good book “Church of Spies: The Pope’s Secret War Against Hitler” by Mark Riebling… Very informative. Pius XII hasn’t always gotten credit for his work against the Nazi’s, in fact he was often accused of sympathizing; however Vatican documents have disputed this. I really recommend the book.
 
I have this sitting on my dresser in a stack of books I’m trying to get through. I did start it though, and it is pretty good so far.
 
There was a pope named hilarius and I heard he was a funny guy lol so he’s my fave
 
I like Pope Francis the most. He seems like a cool guy. I’d love to have him over to my place to have some chicken wings and watch a hockey game. I don’t think he would, but I’d be honored if he did. 😁

I’d be tempted to act like a child around Pope Francis - I would just want to hug him and have him teach me while I lean on his breast.

I can’t describe in words the intense love I feel for him.

Pope Benedict on the other hand, I’d like to sit and have coffee and discuss theology and world politics with and have him teach me. I have an intense love for him too, but it’s more of the love of a teacher than the affectionate love of a father (though I have both for both him and Pope Francis).

Maybe because I reaffirmed my faith with Pope Francis as our pope, but he is an amazing pope from what I can tell. I heard he got caught sneaking out of the Vatican dressed as a priest to feed the homeless. Not sure if that’s true, but I hope it is

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

The Holy Father has the heart of Jesus - he loves the downtrodden and fiercely defends and supports them.
 
For me it is a tie between St. Pius V and St. Pius X. St. Pius V and St. Pius X, pray for us.
 
He loves everyone.

He just has a special charism for defending the defenceless - the poor and downtrodden are generally neglected and without a voice in the world - but Pope Francis, by the power of God, is their voice.
 
The Old Colonel has utmost admiration for His Holiness, Pope Clement, VII. On 6 May, 1527, during the Sack of Rome, he displayed uncommon valor in the face of an overwhelming enemy onslaught, successfully advancing through interlocking, harassing and interdicting enemy fire to reaching his objective of relocating his command to a nearby fortress. The exemplary actions of the Swiss Gaurd during this engagement are also noteworthy and too numerous to summarize here.

St. Peter, Pope St. Pius XII, and Pope St. John Paul II. I would love to learn more about the Holy Fathers the Church has had throughout history.

I love John-Paul II for his teachings, his encyclicals, the Theology of the Body. His warmth, his relations with people. My favourite pope.

I love Benedict XVI too. His explain things very clearly.
It was throught an enthousiam article on a deep ecological magazine that I was first introduce to his writings…What a strange thing…
It was when I read one of his book at 17 after his election, a night that I have an awackening of the faith. I cried, I have understand clearly what is my place in this world as a woman, that the Church was right in all, and that I should follow Her path. I was relieved of my doubts.

I have seen him 3 times in WYD and in Paris.
I was in distress when he resign

So I can’t realy choose between the two…
