Love all of those! For me, the earworm of hymns has to be Thy Strong Word. Now that I mentioned it, it will be playing in my head all day.

Thy strong Word did cleave the darkness;
At thy speaking it was done.
For created light we thank Thee
While thine ordered seasons run
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise to thee who light dost send!
Alleluia without end!

AMEN!
Amen, Amen, Amen! Such powerful lyrics and truly awe-some tune. My personal favorite arrangement is here: open.spotify.com/track/3th1px7TzQdcMja5p9elt7.

Ok seeing as we’re doing it seasonally:

Advent:

Advent: Lo he comes with clouds descending
Christmas: O come all ye faithful
Epiphany: Brightest and best of the sons of the morning
Lent: Forty days and forty nights
Passiontide: When I survey the wondrous cross
Easter: Jesus Christ is risen today

Will post more when they come to me.

I am very traditional and I favour traditional hymns. My favorites right now are:

For all the Saints

Lift high the cross

Immaculate Mary

Wait, John, that’s not about Christ.

Well, if you reshape the current lyrics. The current lyrics:
Holy Elspeth, guide our tongues
To sing to Saradomin’s praise;
Grant us the vision that you saw
To hold before us all our days.
Teach us to stand fast as you stood,
Undaunted by the demon’s cries;
The clash of battle shook you not
Nor heeded you Zamorak’s lies.
Teach us that single piercing note
That rang out with your final breath,
That shook to ash the demon’s heart,
Brought it to silence and to death.
And when for us life’s music fades
As mortal voice and hearing fail,
Grant us to join the eternal choir
And sing with you beyond the veil.
Now…Let’s reshape.

Holy Michael, guide our tongues
To sing to to the praise of Christ our lord.
Grant us the strength that you harness.
And teach us to speak life out of our tounges.

Teach us to stand fast as you stood,
Undaunted by the flares of hell.
The clash of battle shook you not
Nor heeded you Satan’s lies.

Teach us that single slash you swung
That cast Satan and his servents onto Earth.
Bringing him to misery and to prison.

And when for us life’s music fades
As mortal voice and hearing fail,
Grant us to join the Holy Army.
And sing with you in Heaven’s chiors.

Good, hmm?

🤷

It’s been a while since I last heard this sung. I didn’t know the songwriter was catholic
Don Schutte was a Jesuit Priest. He is no longer a Jesuit, but is still a Catholic. Recently there were accusations that he is a partnered gay-man and still writes songs for the Church which has caused some controversy .

I like “Before the Throne of God Above” and “Rock of Ages,” especially the versions by Sojourn.

I like Hillsong’s “Cornerstone,” which is an adaptation of Edward Mote’s “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less.” “In Christ Alone” by Getty and Townend. “Lord, I Need You” by Matt Maher. “All To Us” by Chris Tomlin.

I am very fond of many of Brooke Fraser’s worship songs. My favorites are “Desert Song”,“Hosanna”,“I Will Exalt You” and “Beneath the Waters (I Will Rise).”

I rise as You are risen
Declare Your rule and reign
My life confess Your Lordship
And glorify Your Name
Your word it stands eternal
Your kingdom knows no end
Your praise goes on forever
And on and on again

No power can stand against you
No curse assault Your throne
No one can steal Your glory
For it is Yours alone
I stand to sing Your praises
I stand to testify
For I was dead in my sin
But now I rise

I heard it today at the Mass in Rio (via Vatican Player) and totally fell in love with it: “Nova geração” (New generation) by Padre Zezinho, a very popular Brazilian priest and musician. Excellent lyrics too about what it means to be a priest (“I wear a cross on my chest and the words of Jesus in my heart”).

Brazilian original version with Padre Zezinho:

A Spanish version - “Yo vengo del sur y del norte” (I come from the South and from the North)
