Hi everyone,

I was wondering if people could share their favourite prayers, favourite books of prayers (not allowed to say the bible;)) and their favourite websites to find prayers.

The reason I asked is because I was looking for prayers on the internet and I suspect some of the site were not Catholic. I understand other christians have a lot of good prayers, but I tend to trust Catholic sources more.

Also, I am half wondering if ‘prayers for certain situations’ are not a bit superstitious. I mean after all… if someone is sick and prays for health insead of praying for guidance to find the best medical treatment, I can’t see God holding that against a person. And not to mention, half the time I wouldn’t be surprised if people don’t even know what they should be praying for. So in a nutshell, isn’t the mere fact of praying suficient as opposed to the specific prayer?

Also, I was wondering if people could comment on how they feel about reading prayers as opposed to using their own words

Thanks

CM

What an excellent post. I look forward to the replies and hope to be inspired.

I love the wording used in Catholic prayers prior to Vatican II. Some are like poetry, but may be too overly romantic for some. With that in mind the website www.catholicdoors.com has a plethora of beautiful prayers, and with the same sentiment, I love my copy of “Blessed Be God”.
