Who is your favourite Saint and why?
Any Saint in particular you have a great devotion to?

Saint Pio.
I had an encounter with him. No kidding. He saved me from terrible harm.

Also, Saints Anthony and Clare.
Franz Jaeggerstatter for bravery .

St. Thomas Aquinas. “St. Thomas says that …” is one of the most beautiful ways to start a sentence in the English language.

My favorite story of St. Thomas is this one.

When Thomas was a child and in school, some of his classmates ran over to a window and exclaimed, “Look, Thomas, look! There’s a pig out there with wings that’s flying!”

Thomas, who was of large frame even then, shuffled over to the window with wide eyes, and his classmates began to berate him. “Ha! Ha! Thomas! Are you really so foolish as to believe that pigs can fly?”

But the future Angelic Doctor and Saint replied, “Oh, I would rather believe that pigs can fly than to uncharitably believe my own Christian brethren would lie to me.”

Here’s seven reasons to love St. Thomas.

Saint Josemaría Escrivá. Why? He transformed my life and made God’s plan for me very clear until I got married.

St. Francis, because he stood up to his powerful father. I have always admired this. Leaving behind the comfort and stability of his family’s business to do the bidding of God.

St Therese, for her little way and I believe her intercession really brought me to become Catholic

St Gemma, for her incredible love for God. She inspires me to try and love Jesus more and live a more holy life

St Philomena, for her courage as her parents begged her to break her vow of virginity and get married - I think even a war was threatened due to this! (The Emperor wanted to marry her)

Blessed Dina Belanger, because of her intercession for me and beautiful relationship with Jesus. I got to visit her tomb which was an incredible blessing

St Padre Pio, who has helped me so much in my life and I believe helped me discover modesty

Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta - not beatified yet but I believe I experienced her intercession in powerful ways and her life and love for God is absolutely amazing 🙂

My favorite saint? There are many examples of canonized men and women who serve as great role models and Christians. I’ll list some that I like, St. Justin Martyr probably being my favorite.

I like St. Justin Martyr for his audacity in the face of persecution, going so far as to write two letters to the Roman Senate and to the emperor himself explaining Christianity. He, like other martyrs, would only say “thanks be to God” when sentenced to death.

Sts. Cosmas and Damian, twin brothers canonized together. I not only like them because I have a twin brother myself, but because they were martyrs and examples of piety. They were tortured for their faith, then hung on a cross, stoned, shot by arrows, and were finally killed by beheading. Now that is endurance.

St. Augustine for his piety (though not really for his theology). St. Francis Xavier for his persistence in faith and willingness to travel the world in the name of Christ, allowing people to receive the gospel.
Saint Pio.

Incredible! I know that he is an active saint in the world.

St Joseph! I recently discovered a devotion to him and I’m so glad I did

St Aloysius Gonzaga - he is a very powerful Saint for purity

St Mary Magdalene - her life gives me a lot of hope and her love for Our Lord is extraordinary

St Margaret of Cortona - like a second Magdalene, she turned to Jesus with all her heart after conversion

St. Joan of Arc, because I attribute her to watching over me and intervening for me when I was about to do something wrong, or when I suffered without Christ’s Church. I think she also helped lead me to Catholicism.

St. Bernard of Clairvaux, because he represents the kind of Catholic I would like to be, with his words and obedience to God and the Church.

St. Dominic, because I want to emulate him as a Lay Dominican.

I’m sure there are more, but those are the main three!

So many.
Mary for saying yes to God
Joseph for protecting the Holy Family
St. Ann for being Jesus’ grandmother…
St. Therese the Little Flower for her little way
St. Faustina for the diaries and Chaplet of Divine Mercy
St. Anthony because he helps me find things–no kidding…
St. JPII because he is just so special.
St. John XXIII because he was pope during the 2nd Vatican Council and I think he was misunderstood… IMO

so many more.

St. Peter because he would act before thinking like me sometimes…
All the apostles because they lived with Jesus.
St. Paul because he changed when Jesus touched his life–big time…

St Peter, I don’t know really why exactly, I just always saw myself in him sort of, he tries his very best to do God’s will and serve Christ but he trips up every now and again (quite a lot actually). It’s an inspiration to me that he, arguably the most unqualified of the disciples in terms of leadership and other things, was chosen by Jesus to lead His church. I ask him to pray for me regularly.

St. Francis of Asissi; because he lived the Gospel & saw God’s work in every living being & creature.

My favorite saint would probably be St. Alphonsus Liguori. I also have a devotion to St. Raphael the Archangel and St. Thomas Aquinas.

Saint John XXIII is my favorite saint because he was a holy man who wanted to reform the Church for the better.

St Augustine is my patron saint. Very deep and intellectual.

St. Monica who is Augustine’s mom(just so happens to be her feast day today). Prayed without ceasing and look at the results.

St. Mary Magdalen. If there’s hope for her there’s hope for any of us.

St. Paul. What a warrior and great writer he is. God sure knew what he was doing by chosing him.

St. Padre Pio. he bore the stigmata and so many miracles surrounded this humble man of God. Wish he was alive to hear my confession.

There are others but these folks stand out.

Had 7 demons cast out of her.

And i dont even want to say what many have speculated about her.

And she totally turned her life around as a redeemed person.
Scholars no longer believe she was a prostitute.

St. Pio - I am in awe of him. He was a truly holy man who willingly suffered for 50 years of his life for the conversion of sinners. The love he had for those around him leaves me in awe. I always ask his intercession during my prayers.

St. Bernadette - I have a special fondness for the “Little Saint of Lourdes.” She suffered immensely in her life from many physical ailments, as I do in mine, (although not as much as she did!) She is also one of the patron saints for those ridiculed for their piety. I can identify with this, as I have also been teased for being very religious. I just think of St. Bernadette and smile.

Among seven or eight favorites, one is Saint Isidora of Tabenna. I love the way she harnessed blame as an engine driving her to holiness. The blame that she accepted amounted to a sort of self-aware radical humility, which is a particularly bold path to hidden saintliness, and is within the grasp of anyone.

From the writings of Palladius:

**IN this monastery there was another virgin who feigned madness and possession by a demon. And they detested her so much that they would not even eat with her, she preferring this. She would wander about in the kitchen and do every kind of menial work, and she was, as they say, " the monastery sponge," fulfilling in fact the words of Scripture: “If any one seem to be wise among you in this world, let him become foolish that he may be wise.” (I Cor. 3:18)

She fastened some rags on her headall the rest had the tonsure and wore cowls and sewed in this guise.

None of the 400 sisters ever saw her chewing during the years of her life. She never sat at table, nor partook of a piece of bread, but wiping up the crumbs from the tables and washing the kitchen pots she was content with what she got in this way. Never did she insult any one nor grumble nor talk either little or much, although she was cuffed and insulted and cursed and execrated.

Now an angel appeared to the holy Piteroum, an anchorite of high reputation who dwelt in Porphyrites, and said to him: “Why are you proud of yourself for being religious and dwelling in a place like this? Do you want to see a woman who is more religious than you? Go to the monastery of the Tabennesiot women and there you will find a woman wearing a crown on her head. She is better than you. For though she spars with so great a crowd, she has never let her heart go away from God. But you sit here and wander in imagination through the different cities.”

And he who had never gone out went off to that monastery and besought the masters to let him go to the monastery of the women. They were emboldened to let him in, since he was famous and advanced in years. And having gone in he demanded to see them all. But she *did not appear. At last he said to them: “Bring me all, for there is one lacking.” They said to him: “We have one within in the kitchen, but she is mad.”

He said to them: “Bring her also to me. Let me see her.” They went off to call her. She did not answer, perhaps perceiving what was the matter, or even having had a revelation. They drag her forcibly and say to her: “The holy Piteroum Savants to see you”; for he was famous.

When she came, he perceived the rag on her forehead and fell at her feet and said to her: “Bless me.” She also fell at his feet in like manner, saying: “Do you bless me, Master.” They were all amazed and said to him: “Father, do not let her insult you, she is mad.” Said Piteroum to them all: “You are the ones who are mad. For she is mother (amma) both of me and you.” for thus they call the spiritual women “and I pray to be found worthy of her in the Day of Judgment.”

Having heard these words they fell at his feet, all confessing in different ways: one that she had poured the rinsings of the plate over her; another that she had beaten her with her fist; another that she had applied a mustard*plaster to her nose. And, in a word, tall confessed outrages of one kind or another. So after praying for them he went away. And after a few days, unable to bear her glory and the honor bestowed by the sisters, and burdened by their apologies, she left the monastery.

And where she went, or where she disappeared to, or how she died, no one knows.**
