Who are you favourite saints of the last 100 years and why?

There are many recent saints, but I for one know very little about 90% of them, and I;d like to know more since they lived (and died) in the same age we live in, and battled (and beat) the same forces we face daily.

Please share your knowledge or stories of your favourite modern saints.

St Therese of Lisieux, because of her incredible trust in God and freshness of mind. An episode that I love and that shows her kind of jokeful wisdom, beyond what she actually said to the frightened nun:

She died in 1897, when my grandfather was a little child, so I still perceive her as a contemporary saint, although she doesn’t fit the OP criterion - the last 100 years 🙂

thanks for the thread, I wish I would see more of these types of questions.
favorite saint in the last 100 years, St. Maximilian Kolbe who gave up is his (a two week starvation process) so another man could live to rejoin his family in a Nazi concentration camp. Another would be St. Theresa Benidicta or better known as Edith Stein. She too died in a concentration camp for being Jewish. She was a Carmelite nun, a Jewish convert from atheism. Another who isn’t a saint yet but a servant of God is Solanis Casey. He likewise had an incredible story. He came from a large Irsh family and barely became a priest because he was such a poor student. But because he was a door man for his monestary, he became known for answers to prayer. When my son’s confirmation class visited his center in Detroit, an elderly man stopped to talk to us. He was born premature and his parent took him to visit Solanis Casey, He prayed for him and 70+ years later this man still come once a month to pray with thanksgiving at his grave.

Of late ,I have a special liking for St.Therese
Fr. John A. Hardon S.J., who’s cause for canonization is in the process. He said, “Unless we recover the spirit of the first century Christians–unless we are willing to do what they did and pay the price they paid, the future of our country, the days of America are numbered.”

Archbishop Fulton J Sheen, In the process of being canonized, He formed the prayer, “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, we love you very much, and we beg you to spare the lives of the unborn babies we have spiritually adopted, who are in danger of abortion,” And I add, “And we pray the conversion of those that take the lives of these precious babies.”

And our Beloved Pope John Paul II the Great soon to be Canonized in April.
“Be NOT afraid and Totally Yours”

I am thankful to have lived during this time when we have so many very holy, saintly leaders. Fr. Hardon once told me that it’s a wonderful time to be a alive during these days, you can TRULY live your Catholic Faith!!
God Bless Memaw

St. Therese, the upcoming St. Pope John Paul II, and a couple living saints: our current Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI and my parish priest. 🙂
