What’s more addicti ng for you? Which do you check more often, which keeps you more from a stronger prayer life or from family, service of others etc.?

Personally, I consider CAF contributes to my spiritual growth and also allows me to be a,t the service of others BUT, deep down, I know I spend too much of my free time on here, and, that many posters would benefit more from my prayers than my replies… I just. can’t. put it down

I have a Facebook account but frankly I find little there worth bothering with. I use none of the games or other applications and generally restrict doing much posting.

I will admit though that it came in handy recently during a family tragedy when it made it quite easy to communicate among far flung relations.

Likewise, I am able to see what my granddaughters are posting and can be of support to them.

CAF on the other hand is almost an avocation with me. I enjoy the camaraderie, the sharing, the teaching and learning, in short - pretty much everything about it.

Thank God for CAF.

Peace
James

Can I just say… I was just thinking about this last night too? Haha.

Facebook has always been my pass time when midterm humps and submission deadlines arise (can you tell I’m a student? LOL Really? What gave it away? Haha.) I had this account activated quite a while back to look for some answers and ways to defend the Catholic faith, as I found myself in a situation not knowing how to defend it. And never used it ever since.

Anyway, I came back to this forum again, just to see what else I can find… and there’s so much more! I love it here. And yes, I think CAF is so much more awesome than FB. Although, I gotta admit. I like the “like” buttons in fb a LOT, and wish they had them here as well.

More power to you CAF. :)👍

Yes, yes. I agree with this too. I love the teaching and learning and the sharing. And although sometimes there can be some heated discussions, I like seeing both views and takes on things.

I have a FB account; it’s been months since I checked it. I’m not a fan of FB at all.

I’m one of those uncool people who still likes Facebook and CAF, I guess. :o

I actually have 2 FB accounts - one for my political activist activities, pro-life messages, and Catholic stuff, and one for friends and family who are

at my political views. I spend most of my time on the current-events/political/activist page, and yes, it is very addicting. I had over 1200 friends at one point but slowly have cut them back to just over 250. We use FB in a completely different way than our kids to - we use it as a running news service and a way to connect with others of like mind. My sons can’t understand what I do on FB and I think their pages are b-o-r-i-n-g!

But I love CAF too - I have learned SO MUCH here, about our faith. And I want to communicate with other Catholics which can be hard on FB.

So I voted “Both!”

Juliane-I’ve thought about getting two Facebook pages for the same reason you give, but those who like me know my views and how passionate I am.

I don’t know, you might be right.

I LOVE facebook, it makes it really easy to keep in touch with the people you love.

I also like it better because it’s where my family and friends are… while CAF is basically all strangers online lol.

👍

I don’t like it when people bash Facebook. I’ve met some GREAT friends on there that I’ve met in the “real world” and am very close with.

I don’t have a facebook and neither does my wife. I cannot tell you how many “drama” Situations we have avoided because of this. Both of us are active in our parish and it is sad to see so many fights, squabbles and hurt feeling come with the word “facebook”

I wear it like a badge of honor. “I don’t have a facebook” is now the new “I dont even own a TV.”

rekindled affairs, gossip, misunderstandings, flirting, drunk pictures… no thanks!

You have every right not to have a Facebook, and your right-it is a new badge of honor. However, and NO, I’m NOT saying your doing this-but don’t look down on Facebook users because you don’t have one. I don’t have affairs (I’m single), don’t post gossipy or drunk pictures. I do flirt with the ladies…um…sorry. :o

I see a lot more drama and fights here in one week than I’ve seen on facebook in 6 years…

I love facebook. I keep in touch with friends, I keep updated on family, I play some great games with friends. I find out about a lot of things that I may not otherwise. What’s not to love. Considering that only my friends posts make their way to my wall, the quality of my friends will identify the quality of posts on my wall, the same goes for the groups and organisations I “like”. Facebook is a tool that is as good or as bad as the users of it.

Good, I am glad I have that right. I didn’t say anything about facebook users. You have every right to use it. So defensive…

The difference is obvious. This is a forum to discuss. With anonymous posters. It honestly does not affect my life. I have seen friendships, ministry teams, jobs and families get destroyed by facebook posts. But it isnt facebook to blame. But to underestimate the sheer power of it is the folly of many a user…

Just as an aside and I know this isnt the case. But the typical addict would respond exactly like you did…😉

What gentlemenly response! Talking about how “defensive” someone is for responding to what seemed like a slight against Facebook users, and now calling Deborah123 a Facebook “addict”.

Ironically, Facebook makes it harder to insult others because the name and face is usually attached. It’s very easy to talk the way your doing because you can hide under a mask.
