Fear of flying, please pray for me!

Hi everyone!

A few years back I asked for everyone’s prayers because I have a fear of flying that’s kept me on the ground since 2010. I posted a thread in 2013 and asked for everyone’s prayers for a safe flight. Many of you posted and I can’t thank you enough for praying for me 🙂 Sadly, my fear overwhelmed me and I didn’t fly. I ended up taking a train cross country. It was supposed to be a full week trip but I only spent 2 days with them because I needed to make the 3.5 day train journey back home. Now, it’s different. My job is requiring me to start traveling and I have to fly out this Monday, March 20, and fly back home on Friday, March 24. I’ve been reciting the St. Jude novena, asking for his intercession to pray for me for protection. I went to adoration last night and I pleaded to our risen Lord to please spare my life. This fear is terrible. My wife wants to travel to many places that require airplane travel, but my fear is keeping us from going. I don’t want to punish her by not traveling. I want to overcome this. I know, unfortunately, we all die, and I know planes do crash from time to time. It’s a sad way to go and I don’t wish that upon anyone. I just got married and we’ve only begun to start our lives and our careers. We wish to be parents and raise a family.

Please pray to God for me, to help me overcome this fear once and for all, to bless my wife and I with good health & longevity, and to please bless us with safe travels, wherever we go.

Prayers for you.

I don’t like flying either, although it really is a safer way to travel. I wasn’t always afraid. My first flight when I was 18 was 15 hours long one way!

I flew this past summer for the first time in several years. Well since last decade. This year I flew two round trips. I look forward to another this year. The reason to fly is a way to a means. But, the last time I did fly we landed at night and seeing cities from the air is so beautiful it was worth a little nervousness. 🙂 I did say a couple of rosaries between snacks and scenic window viewing. It really helped. The Lord gave me wonderful travelling companions.

Flying is one of the safest modes of transport , we flew to Europe twice and back,
Then Japan, and loved every moment , just need to pick the good seats , where you get plenty leg room, if you can get 2. Seats just behind an exit door,where you don’t have a seat directly in front of you is best, if I can do it,anyone can,

Lol, I just got back from dropping my mother off at the airport, and she doesn’t like flying either! Not quite as bad as you, but same idea.

I prayed for you before typing this, and I will say another prayer after I hit the button at the bottom.

I apologize in advance if you were not looking for practical advice, but have you asked your doctor for a prescription? I’ve been on Lorazapam (sp?) for anxiety before, and I know airline passengers frequently take something like Valium. Either way, another prayer is coming right now.

PRAYER FOR FEAR OF FLYING

Dear God, I’ve always been afraid of flying, but with the recent terrorist attacks, my fear has grown. The thought of boarding an airplane terrifies me, even though I know you care enough to be with me and to help me through the flight.

I need your help, dear Lord. Touch my fearful mind and heart. Fill me with your peace. Give me the faith I need to take this trip. Help me sense your hand around me and around the airplane as you hold us up in the sky. keep my focus on the image of your everlasting arms underneath us. I turn my face toward you, O Lord, as I give you my fear and ask you to replace it with confidence in you and your faithfulness.

I know you want to encourage me to be strong and courageous, just as you have always encouraged your people to trust you during times of fear. I know that nothing can happen to me unless you allow it. I know you will do what is best for me. I choose to believe those truths – to set my mind on them.

Be with me as well as with the pilots, the crew, and the other passengers. Surround us with your love. Fill every heart with Your peace. In Jesus’ name I pray.
