Hi,
I would think that most would not welcome prolonged illness, but I have a strong fear of having to suffer thru a prolonged illness like multiple sclerosis, stroke, or cancer. My health has been suffering for quite a while now and its really taking its toll on me.
**Is it wrong to pray for a quick death? **For example to have a massive heartattack or ideally to die in ones sleep? I find myself weighing the options of suffering and living a long life or dieing quick.
Thanks

I suspect we are better off not getting so specific with our requests of God – He likely has far better plans than what we can imagine. We seek Mary’s invocation for a “happy death” in the glorious mysteries of the Rosary. I shall leave determination of details to God.

Dont get trapped into anxiety and depression my friend. Keep your eyes on Jesus so not to sink. Assuming you are not suffering from these emotional problems, there is a Catholic prayer for a Happy Death. I think its thru the intercession of Saint Joseph. Hope this helps you…Persevere ! 😉

I was very sick at one point and finally one day I quit praying to get better. Instead I prayed, Lord if this is your will for my life, help me accept it and learn to live with it. It was only then that I started to get better. Some days I have relapses. I still struggle with offering my pain up to the Lord. Your sufferings can unite you closer to God but it is a difficult journey.

I can’t personally say it is wrong to pray for a quick death. Or even a happy death. I don’t want to suffer anymore than the next person but I don’t feel right praying for that knowing that Jesus suffered much when he died and who am I to expect better than that? I try to pray for a faithful death.

I fear prolonged illness as well. I found comfort not in praying…Hey God, take me by a massive heart attack…I found comfort in preparing for it. As in…yep, insurance. Disability.

Don’t focus on this negative.

God bless.
