It seems that non-catholics prefer to reject the teachings of the Catholic church, mostly because of the profound claims that we make(being the one True Church, Mary being the mother of God, the Eucharist being the blood and body, etc.) and not commonly for any other reason.

This is reasonable. And I encourage all people to examine other people’s faith’s and their own faith’s infinitely closely through the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

However, one should keep in mind that the Jews thought it was quite the radical claim that Jesus was the One True God.

It was also very radical for God to tell His first disciples to drop their nets and follow Him to become “fishers of men”.

How radical it must’ve been to drop their livelihood and follow this crazy man on faith!

With that note I would like to invite non-Catholic’s to pray for guidance from the Holy Spirit and leave their kind objections to the Catholic faith. I’m tired of seeing “my horse is bigger than yours” type of fights in the other forums. I’d like us to take the opportunity to make faithful approaches at each other’s theology through this thread.forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon14.gif
 
I like to look at all the various tirinitarian Christian denominations as different expressions of the same faith in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
 
That’s a good point. In many respects it seems that we all are just trying to express our love for the father through our respective faiths. What more could be asked of us?

However, as all children will do the same for their parents – I find that the oldest is the most clever and most fond of his parents. This makes him more able to express himself to the father in a way most pleasing. The eldest son has been with the father first and knows how to please him best 🙂

This is how I see the Roman Catholic Church.
 
Just as Jesus was 100% GOD, HE was 100% human-The outward human form HE took was seen by all. Jesus experienced pain, hunger and thirst in HIS humaness.

The body and blood of Christ is in under and with the bread and wine. We can see with our own eyes that the bread and wine are still present after consecration. We taste only bread and wine but the Eucharist is the body and blood of Christ and therefore food for our soul.

I have 3 children and each brings a very special relationship, each shows their love in their own special way. Each has very different talents and smarts in different areas. I have actually had teachers and school administraters marvel at how wonderful and respectful each child is but very much their own person.

I would in no way want my children to show me love in the very same way. They are indiviuals and that is to be celebrated.

GOD loves diversity- look at the different plants and animals HE created.

I used the analogy of family to make a point. However, you should be careful not to compare your human love for your children to the infinite and divine love God has for his adopted children.

Actually, I’m not sure what point you were making with the first two paragraphs of your statement. I’m Roman Catholic and recognize these truths.

As for playing favorites. This is in no way true. The Roman Catholic church contains the fullness of revealed Truth. We have everything that Christ has given. Ergo, we can best please God if we would only utilize the fullness of what we’ve been given.

Unfortunately, Catholics for the majority do not take advantage of all that they have. Often, protestants (or non-catholics if you prefer) have pieces of the Truth, but go a mile longer than most Catholics with it. They do more with less. Catholics often do less with more.

I am a Roman Catholic and admittedly I can’t say I’ve championed everything our church has to offer. Indeed, it offers a lot 🙂 And often we can look to our protestant brother’s and sister’s who always seem to be more zealous and active than the majority of Catholics. Not to say that all Catholics are bums! Don’t get me wrong. We’ve had some champions in our church, let me tell you! But, this is the truth.

There is more the Catholic people can do to please God because we have the fullness of the Truth. This is the simple truth.

The family analogy was to bring attention to the point that the eldest knows more about his father (favorite drink, favorite dish, favorite sport, etc.) not to mention has better social skills. The eldest son who knows more about his father knows best how to please him. Aside from perhaps his mother 🙂

Luther championed each of us reading and having the Holy Bible in our own language. Putting GOD’s Holy Word in every persons hand-GOD definately had something to do with that!!

You mentioned the Eucharist-My second paragragh was the Lutheran understanding of the Eucharist Consubstantation the body and blood in under and the substance of the bread and wine and not the Catholic Transubstantiation-the substance of the bread and wine changes into the body and blood.

Maybe the eldest knows more about his parents in your-not the case in many families. All families are very different!!

God established the One True Church that is His Bride.

“You are Peter and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it”

Christ built the church on a rock. It’s unchanging. Christ is the word made flesh. Everything that need to be said, has been said through Christ. By this logic, Truth is unchanging. And what Christ builds is to stay that way forever. “For what he seals, no man can open”

Luther found the members of the Catholic Church in corruption. This should not come as no surprise since men are still imperfect, even if they are given the fullness of the Truth that doesn’t mean they’ll take advantage of it and grasp it. Still, that isn’t a free ticket to modify the Truth and make a new religion. This is a crisis and a sacrilege that must be addressed as such. A more Christian-bound approach would have been for Luthor to attempt to end the selling of indulgences.
 
Luthers goal was not to make a new religion just correct many of it’s faults-it had changed and he was trying to get back to the original.

Remember: All Trinitarian Christians celebrating their faith-all believe that Jesus is our Lord and Saviour a gift of Grace from GOD, are the One True Church, and so are the bride of Christ.

Luther did try to end the indulgences. He nailed up the 95 Theses and wanted to debate the points-

I want to end our discussion here-I answered trying show that we are all one but see a resistance to the idea.

Did I say we weren’t one?

If Luther did not intent to make a new religion then how even more mislead are all those who follow the Protestant movement.

I have nothing against non-catholics. But I do believe the Roman Catholic Church contains the fullness of revealed Truth.

Call it what you may.
