I recently have had some weird experiences when waking up from naps. I’ll be waking up with a startlingly vivid understanding of my own mortality. This has happened more than once and sometimes its accompanied by the feeling of entering infinite darkness. Every time it happens, it scares the living daylights out of me. My mom thinks it is a panic attack but I didn’t really go into detail when I told her because I figured it was something that I couldn’t adequately explain. It doesn’t feel like anything physical/emotional. It feels spiritual. I am not really sure how to explain it besides that.

I guess, I am just scared that even though I have a past with sin, and even though I confessed that time of my life, maybe I missed things or was lazy and didn’t confess stuff that I was suppose to.

Sometimes I feel like it is just so hard to get to heaven. I want to go to heaven with all that is within me… but I can’t seem to kick this feeling. What if all my efforts are in vain? 😊

Fear of death is, in psychological terms, “Thanatophobia”. Most people fear death, I would say.

Sleep is actually pretty complex stuff…rapid eye movement, etc. There are people with “night terrors” who have disturbing dreams. I had a friend once who had that. She got to the point she didn´t want to go to sleep for fear of the nightmares!

Sometimes, people may, unbeknownst to them, have conditions, such as sleep apnea. My father had that, I seem to have that. When I can´t breathe during sleep, I imagine all kinds of things…that I’m dying, etc.

If this continues, there are sleep clinics for the physical aspect of it.

If it’s emotional, there are psychological avenues…counseling. Some people suffer traumas, which, during sleep, come to the surface.

Spritually, if it is that, then there might be some spiritual ways to handle that.

Well, insofar as confession is concerned, you can do a general confession if that would help you feel more at peace. However, after that, let it go. If you are still having fear, it could be scrupulosity or some other thing.

Insofar as fear of death, if I had what you’re going through, I think I’d also try not to watch any scary movies before bedtime, do things to relieve stress, comfort, and reassure me.

Insofar as sin, it was said that Christ spoke to St. Faustina about confession. She had doubted she had been forgiven. Christ said he was more hurt by her doubting his forgiveness than be the sin she had originally committed!

One can drive oneself crazy with “what if’s”…“What if I forgot a sin?” “What if …”.
We need to have some peace of mind, somehow. I think Christ gave us the sacrament of reconciliation to help us be more at peace.

If you have confessed, let it go. Stop tormenting yourself. If you prefer, do a general confession…then…be at peace. If you absolutely can´t let it rest after that, some kind of other dynamic may be at work which may need to be addressed. God bless you, Dear.

Good luck! 👍

You’re not alone. I’ve also experienced this and am inclined to believe many others have also. It’s really frightening, and I happen to think it’s the enemy of this world trying to pull us away from God. The reason I think that way is because it usually happens when I’m in a very good place with the Lord and the enemy can’t turn me away from Him. So it attacks when you’re most vulnerable. If it happens to you again, immediately turn your thoughts to God, and ask Him for protection. Say the St. Michael prayer. That helps me.

As far as being afraid you missed something in confession, if we confess all that we remember during our confession, those sins,
and the unmentioned forgotten ones are also forgiven. Unless of course it was mortal, like murder, which I would tend to think you wouldn’t have forgotten. Right?

Remember always, Jesus died for us. As long as you try to be the best version of yourself you can possibly be, and live your life loving God, people, and His creation, you are on the right path.

May you always maintain Christ’s Divine Peace in your heart.
:blessyou:

You may not want to accept any advice from a non-catholic, but the word of God is sure. It does not fail.

Please look at Mt. 7:7. “Ask and it shall be given you; seek and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you”

Salvation and forgiveness is very easy. It does not depend on confessing every sin. If so, few would be saved. All you need to do is ask. Have you done so? Just ask Jesus to save you. That’s all there is to it except for one more thing. Jesus wants you to give Him something. He wants your sin, all of it. Give it to Him. Past present, and even future. Receive forgiveness. Thank Him. That’s it. Now you have made your calling and election sure.

Its not about “good luck”

Be blessed

We are **all **Gods People. A Catholic Christian, a Pentecostal Christian, … We all believe in our Savior, Jesus Christ, and in his Good News.

You are not alone…I also fear death and find myself thinking about it alot, Ive come to think the main reason why there is so much fear, is the simple fact that NO ONE really knows what happens at our death, no one knows what it feels like, the things you see, feel, and experience. We have all read NDEs, but their validity is somewhat up in the air, as they really are not the same as each other, I think death is probably the same for everyone in regards to what its like, what it feels like, what we see, etc.

Ive often wondered if you are judged right then and there, or maybe theres a big line with others that have died, I mean, at death time is over, we dont have anything else to do,so could be anything I guess?!

What frightens me the most, is the times I have intense dreams about going to hell, I wake up in sweats, really truly in fear, this scares me very bad, and I feel so vulnerable when I wake up in the middle of the night after one of these dreams.

Try sleeping with a blessed Rosary in one hand, and a blessed wooden Crucifix in the other.
