I’m glad that you aren’t relying on signs from God. I sort of didn’t get any real “idiot-proof” signs until recently. However, there was the time two years ago when someone approached a realtive of mine (this lady didn’t even know this person was my relative) and she was like, “Ya, he’s going to be a priest some day.” We’ve never seen this lady every again.
Sometimes God holds off because he wants you to grow more in faith with Him. In other words: praying, being a better Catholic, being “Christ” for others as sort of a way to see what it would be like to be a priest. I’ve always had a deep attraction to the Mass and liturgy, so it’s sort of been in me since I was little. Then there’s those times where I doze off during the homily and think about what I would say.
There are some priests today that say they felt the call when they were four or five. I remember reading about St. John Bosco, and he said to his friends when he was 12, “I want to be a priest!”
I was with a friend a few weeks ago at Catholic Youth Day, and this friend didn’t know that I was thinking of becoming a priest. Well, we were in line for a rollercoaster and she asked me, “Who is that guy that was talking with us earlier?” And I said, “He was a seminarian.” She said, “Oh, I would love being a priest if I was male and actually involved in the Church. I think that that would be cool.” I asked he if she thought she could ever see me as one, and she said, “Oh ya, definately.” I was
not expecting that reply. We always had a joking relationship with each other, so I thought she never though of me that way.
Just a few idiot-proof signs. Sometimes they are there, you just don’t see them!
