As others have said, the notion of “feast before fast” applies to the periods of time right before the start of Lent and of Advent. The principle is to maintain the right balance in our attitude toward material pleasures. Unlike some of the Asian religions, Christianity does not condemn the physical world and its pleasures. We appreciate the pleasures of food, drink etc. and we enjoy them at the proper times, the times for feasting. Side by side with this is the practice of fasting which we do, not out of contempt for the body or the material world, but as a means of spiritual growth.
