Hi y’all,

I was looking in my missal this morning to find the text for Mass today for the feast of Christ the King, and I am unable to find it.

I use a 1945 St. Andrew Daily Missal (reprint, not original printing) and all I see is it takes me to the 24th Sunday after Pentecost which does not have the readings right as I can find online.

Was this a feast added for the 1962 Missal? If so, what other things am I missing out on by using a 1945, or should I do an “upgrade”?

Thanks and blessings

You might be looking in the wrong place in the missal

This feast was originally the last week of October- and was moved in more recent years to the week before the 1st Sunday of Advent.

We celebrated the Feast of Christ the King today at the EF.

In the St. Andrew’s Missal, it’s listed in the back after Oct. 24th.

You probably should obtain an upgraded missal. 😉 You can use the one you like best, and the other for cross-reference. 🙂

The feast will be in a 1945 missal. Look in the index of feasts in the back, and look under the first section “Feasts of Our Lord.”

I’m sure you’ve found it by now, page 1533. St. Andrew’s Missal has a wealth of background info on all feasts and liturgical seasons. It is my favorite missal.

As other’s have indicated, the Feast in the EF is celebrated in the last Sunday of October. Not so in the OF.

If your priest did celebrate it in the EF last Sunday, then he did not follow the Order of Mass of 1962. Perhaps some folks could sit down with him and discuss the EF requirements.
