Feast day of St. Therese of Lisieux

I wanted to start a thread, mainly on a positive note, about this Saint that has affected so many. Though, I don’t have a deep devotion to her, she has never the less been very helpful to my family in her intercessions and deserves my closer attention as she helps guide me to the Lord. I pray to the Little Flower every morning, for her prayers.

My wife has a great devotion to St. Theresa. We visited Lesieux back in 1998. The Basillica of St. Theresa is awesome. Her home, would be consided upscale, even in today’s world, yet she chose a life of poverty in the Carmelite Order.

October is my favorite month. So many great saints have their feastday this month.

Oct 1 St. Theresa of Lisieux
Oct 4 St. Francis of Assisi
Oct 9 St. Denis (My Parish is Named After)
Oct 15 St. Teresa of Avila (Also My Birthday 🙂 )
Oct 16 St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (Devotion to the Sacred Heart)

I didn’t know she came from a well to do family. I did read she lost her mother at the age of four in Alencon , France, then her father moved them to Lisieux in 1877. Then in 1879 she went to confession for the first time and received the “singular grace of being healed from serious illness through the intercession of Our Lady of Victories”. Received first communion in 1884 after being taught by Benedictine nuns which culminated in a “vivid experience of intimate union with Christ”. In the weeks following she was confirmed being fully aware of receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit as a personal participation in the grace of Pentecost. Now thats a childhood! Tim

Once when I did a novena to the Little Flower, it was near the end and I walked into my local Catholic bookstore. There was a bunch of Holy Cards of St Therese with the novena on 'em - and a rose petal in a little plastic window on each card (you know people receive roses as a sign from her)

And I thought … cheaters! 😃

She sent two slow growing coral colored rose’s on a bush in the yard after a novena to her. I took that as to be patient. Then almost a month later, there was rose’s all over the place at church and 3-4 coral rose’s at the statues of Mary and Joseph. I notioned to my wife during Mass that the request was answered. The next day, that Monday, my wife got the gov’t job with FEMA she had applied for months earlier. She starts training in a couple of weeks as a human service’s specialist in disaster relief. More pay, great benefits and helping people recover from disasters, what a blessing. Tim
 
How much are known about roses? I planted some rose bushes for my parents. The rose bushes bloomed all through June. Then in July, August & September they lost their blooms and just became plants. Then I went to visit my parents yesterday and I notice one of the plants had one rose bloom on them. We’ve had an unusually warm summer and my dad hasn’t been watering the plants at all. But I thought that was strange that one plant would bloom at the start of October like that.

I’ve been discerning a vocation. I think some people might take that as a sign but I’m skeptical. I haven’t been saying any prayers to St. Therese of Lisieux about my vocation.
 
Again, thanks St. Therese for sending us a yellow rose couple of week ago. Help us trust in the Lord.
 
St Therese is a saint, who has always given me great help. I prayed to her a great deal and also to other saints for the healing of my oldest child (from severe autism). She gave me many signs of hope and my oldest child did make extraordinary progress out of this condition.

I begged St Therese for help to be healed of extreme and prolonged dizzyness and vertigo and other symptoms (and I also prayed to other saints and the Holy Souls). Again she gave me signs that I would be healed and this has happened.

She healed my aunty of cancer. St Therese interceded for me in many situations and I have great confidence in her intercession because she keeps her promises of sending roses upon the earth (the roses are her miracles and favours).

Yes, Theresa’s parents were successful business people. Her father was a watch maker and her mother ran a successful business making the famous Alecon Lace. In fact, the lace making business took over the watch making business. They had servants and their home was well furnished. When I visited Theresa’s home in Lisieux, her bedroom was still set up, with her toys. She had a little kitchen set, all made of metal, and a little china dinner set, and of course dolls, with an assortment of doll clothes. These were expensive toys in Theresa’s day.

However, the Martins were very generous and did not flaunt their wealth. They treated their servants well, and even cared for their families when they took sick. They fed the poor, and provided for the church. When the Martin daughters entered the convent, they took with them a generous dowry.

The Martin’s are a good example for how we should live, in our affluent country.
