I was wondering if others had the experience of celebrating the Feast of Bl John Paul on Oct 22. The day has been added to the Franciscan Calendar and missal as a feast. It’s a memorial in Rome and Poland, but a feast for Franciscans. We had the first mass with the new collect in Latin and in English and the proper readings. It was very beautiful. I was wondering if people were even going to notice the change. Those who come to our chapel for mass did not even realize that the brother was wearing white, the mass had incense, and the traditional Saturday mass of the BVM was not celebrated. It was inserted very smoothly. We had only one person object to it.
I don’t know how many other dioceses and religious communities asked for permission to include it in their calendars and to elevate it from memorial to feast. My guess is that the Carmelites may have also done so. We have a new insert to the Franciscan Breviary too, just for the feast of Bl. John Paul. Now you need three hands to manipulate the Breviary.
