Dear all,

The Feast of Immaculate Conception falls on a Sunday this year, so the feast has been moved to Monday (9th Dec). Is it true that the obligations to attend Mass and refrain from servile work are abrogated??

Thank you in advance.
Marty

I’m not sure,I’ll bump this up.
Sadly it’s not a holy day of obligation here in Australia ,but all going well I’m planning to travel to go to mass.God bless.

Yes, if you are in the USA. In my country, England, the Immaculate Conception is never a holy day of obligation.

Right. In the US, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception was transferred to Monday, but obligation to attend Mass did not transfer.

Our normal Monday morning Mass will be for the feast. It was moved from the chapel in hopes of more people attending.

In our dioceses, yes. Attendance is encouraged on Monday, Not required.

In the United States, today (Sunday, December 8) is the Second Sunday of Advent (The Second Sunday of Advent takes precedence over the Immaculate Conception in the liturgical calendar). The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is moved/will be celebrated tomorrow (Monday, December 9), but it is not a Holy Day of Obligation, this year.

The Feast of the Conception of St. Anna is Dec. 9 but on the Byzantine calendar published by Byzantine Seminary Press they have it on Dec. 8. And the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Philadelphia celebrated its Patronal Feast today too.

I’ll be glad to say or sing the Gloria during the Immaculate Conception Mass. I always miss it during Lent and Advent.

I assumed that OP was a Roman Catholic. My apologies. It may work differently in other Catholic rites. Now, in the Extraordinary Form of the Latin/Roman Rite, the Immaculate Conception was celebrated yesterday (It was the Immaculate Conception with a commemoration of the Second Sunday of Advent).

In Canada the Immaculate Conception is no longer a holy day of obligation.

Unfortunately, because of the move, the feast of Juan Diego gets skipped. Fortunately, it’s pretty likely that Juan is honored to have his day be centered on Mary!
