What is the mood of the Feast of the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ?

I will define mood. Is it sorrow that I feel, or is it joy that I feel. Sorrow because I have never seen the risen Lord and He is absent, he left us, there is an emptiness, Joy because of where He is now. The Ascension is the one Feast which gives me such huge conflict of emotion, it is the one where I am torn apart between two feelings until Pentecost.

Imagine what the eleven Apostles felt. They saw His death (well, only John was at the crucifixion), utter sadness and dispair. Then His Resurrection, utter joy only to have Him ascend upon clouds and disappear, sadness again. The time between that and the arrival of the Holy Spirit must have been, I can’t imagine, what could they do but pray in that upper room with His Mother, Mary. Our Eastern Catholic calendar still shows one more week of the Ressurection season, though after Ascension the curtain separating the altar is closed, it had been opened wide since Ressurection Day (Easter-Pascha). It was sad to see that.

As in the psalm. IIRC : ‘God goes up with shouts of joy, the Lord goes up with trumpet blast! Sing praise to our God, sing praise! Sing praise to our King, sing praise!’

I feel sad that Jesus left us but on the other hand He went to the Father and completed his will on earth.
