Feast of the Baptism Mass with the Pope

Did anyone happen to notice (or watch) the Pope’s recent Mass for the Baptism of the Lord? He said Mass “ad orientem”!! And of course it was in Latin as well. That’s nothing new with him.

I know this is not the first time he’s said Mass ad orientem as Pope. I’ve seen it 1 other time. Maybe it’s just me but I was quite excited about it when I saw it. I see it as another sign that the Pope is getting things back on track… Slowly but surely.

This wasn’t the EF… It was the OF… I think this is what the Council actually envisioned. It was quite impressive.

But, could this be that he had to say Mass ad orientem based on where the Mass was said? Sistine Chapel? There was no other altar other than the high altar…

The Pope does this every year on this Feast. I believe he celebrates all Masses ad orientem when he celebrates in one of the small chapels.

As far as the proportion of Latin to vernacular and where each language is used, I think the Pope is sending signals. I do not believe mandates will come from this Pope, but I think it is a clear sign of intent. In the larger Capella Papale Masses, almost the whole thing is in Latin, but when he celebrates publicly abroad (and by this I mean anywhere outside St. Peter’s and the other Papal Basilicas), his ratio of Latin to vernacular is consistent and is striking.

Then click “Eucharist with Baptism of infants.” A menu will come up.
Then click the little TV icon on the right side, to the right of the words “original sound.”

Thanks youngtradcath… I actually didn’t have a link to it. I just happened to stumble upon it on ewtn… When I saw it, I quick started recording with the dvr and watched it later.

But, since I recorded it from ewtn, I’m sure they would have a link from they’re website too.
