I didn’t know there was a contest.

"The City of Champions can claim a new American title: No. 1 in producing cardinals for the Catholic Church. With the expected elevation of Cardinal-designate Donald Wuerl of Washington, D.C., four living cardinals will have grown up in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

Cardinal-designate Wuerl is also the fourth former bishop of Pittsburgh to receive the red hat. No other U.S. diocese has four living members of the College of Cardinals, said Rocco Palmo, an ecclesiastical analyst who blogs at Whispers in the Loggia."

I hate to burst your bubble but: This was a bishop who covered up abuse by priests, was made an archbishop and then a cardinal. Sorry, but I have no respect for the man. Doesn’t anyone do a background check? “www.donaldwuerl.com”. I had read a book by him and was going to send him a note. While looking to see where he was, I found out more than I wanted to know.
I love my faith, my church, and my God, and will pray for his soul.

To expose a bishop who rose to prominence amidst the incessant

                 drone of a propaganda machine is to extend charity toward those
                 who would otherwise remain deceived and even bullied by that bi-
                 shop.  To remain silent amidst his corruption is to commit a sin of
                 accessory.  Donald Wuerl allowed himself to be heralded as the
                 untold hero of zero tolerance throughout the media circuits of the
                 western world.  This was a contradiction in that he had sex abuse
                 cover-ups dating back to the first year of his tenure in Pittsburgh.
                 Even as recently as Friday, April 2, 2010, he performed a con-
                 trived act of grand standing that reinforced the lie he had created.


                 In having let the myth about himself perpetuate, Wuerl did nothing
                 more than gain power and influence by deception.  Due to this un-
                 conscionable ploy, the disclosure of his cover-ups became a moral
                 obligation. So too came the obligation to warn others that the same
                 Donald Wuerl allowed harm to be inflicted upon members of the la-
                 ity during retaliations that he should never have allowed to continue.
                 The need to cry out also ensues from Wuerl's abridgment of faith 
                 and morals.   It were as if he had chiseled off four of the ten com-
                 mandments from the stone tablets upon which they were engraved.

Why don’t you provide some evidence of your accusation? That “www.donaldwuerl.com” website sounds like a hit piece. I am not going to that link.

I live in the Pittsburgh Diocese. The media here would NEVER miss an opportunity to go after any member of the Catholic clergy, whether they live her or they used to live here.

In the early 1990s, then-Bishop Wuerl fought the Vatican over a resinstatement of a priest. the Vatican wanted him back. Wuerl said no, and Wuerl prevailed.

Ms. Baltobetsy…there is a time and a place for “teasing” about football teams and this is not one of them. Frankly, that is such a dumb remark it seems to have come off of a combox on cleveland.com after another Browns loss to the Steelers (you know…the Browns…the replacement team for the one that Baltimore **STOLE **from Cleveland).

All of the newly designated Cardinals need and should receive our prayers for support - as well as all clergy and religious.

Enjoy that win over the Steelers. You won’t see another one this year.

You’re right that we should be praying for these new cardinal-designates (and all the cardinals and all the bishops and clergy), but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a sense of humor about things. I’m sure she meant no disrespect to the cardinals in question.
