Could someone please explain these verses from today’s Gospel:

usccb.org/nab/bible/mark/mark8.htm#v38

He also said to them,
“Amen, I say to you,
there are **some standing here **who will not taste death
until they see that the Kingdom of God has come in power.”

whom Jesus refered to?

Thanks!

He was referring to those in the crowd who would still be alive when the Church came into being. The “Kingdom of God” consists of the Church here on earth and those who are saved (in heaven or purgatory) after death. This kingdom was established with Our Lord’s death and the coming of the Holy Spirit. “Power” would be a reference to Our Lord’s conquering of satan and sin, and the bestowal of sanctifying grace on the just who were already deceased and on the living who accepted Him.

I have also heard of it being interpreted as applying to Peter, James and John, who were to see Our Lord transfigured only six days later.
