Federal Income Tax

The early Christians were noted for paying taxes imposed by law. There is a big difference between unjust taxes imposed by law and unjust taxed that are not imposed by law. If there was a law that stated I should pay the federal income tax then I will pay it. If there isn’t a law stating that I have to pay the federal income tax then I’m not going to pay it. With that said the law that exists today regarding the federal income tax does not require me to pay it.

Laziness is another thing the early Christians didn’t do so I would recommend researching this because the Supreme Court says you’re wrong. Furthermore the early Christians wouldn’t just stand around and be silent to injustices happening around them. Rather they would speak against them and fight them in a charitable manner. Me not paying the Federal Income Tax which is not required of me by law is me fighting against an injustice going on in my country.

You Bookat are doing more harm than good and your type of attitude is why a lot of people are being unjustly imprisoned.

You are misinformed. We are expected to pay such.

(As to the early Christians…when apologists did respond to persecutors one thing they did explicitly mention --interestingly —is that they payed the taxes.)

Oh…and the other poster there had some info that they researched.

docs.law.gwu.edu/facweb/jsiegel/Personal/taxes/JustNoLaw.htm

I don’t have the time to do extensive research on something of this nature - especially when I am here to ‘learn’ about being Catholic and what is expected of me.

In Matthew 22:15-22 talks about this. Basically, Jesus said to repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.

For anyone to try to shrink away from their tax obligations (what belongs to Caesar) - it makes me wonder when these people will try to shrink away from their obligations to God (what belongs to God).

I worked for years in Financial Accounting. Filing tax returns AND paying any taxes owed are the law of the land. When people don’t file on time - or don’t pay their taxes owed (for whatever reason) - they are punished. These people have tax liens places on their personal assets - accrue interest and penalties for the entire period that the debt is outstanding - and some even go to prison.

Wesley Snipes was a good example. 😃

It’s just like the cure for cancer - if it were true then many would know about it - not just a few who are looking to make a bunch of money. If it was truly only ‘voluntary’ to pay taxes - I can assure you that no one would be paying and it would be common knowledge.

The taxation system is not some conspiracy that is out to get you.
Thank you Kristy for providing that: however you have yet to show me how it applies to me legaly. Especially since I’m not a corporation and since I have not received any corporate profits or gains which is what the Supreme Court has defined “income” to be. So no the Wesely Snipes was not a good exmple because I’m not Wesely Snipes and because we do not know about his financial background (meaning did he recive corperate profits and gains and not pay taxes on them.) The key word here Kristy is CORPERATE.

It is called “personal income tax”. We are required to file this every April …and pay it.

You still do not understand: There is NO TAX that requires me a NON CORPERATE INTITIY to pay taxes on that which is NOT a CORPERATE PROFIT OR GAIN!
Basically you telling me I’m incorrect for not paying a tax that does not apply to me!

Also I have seen the info the other poster gave me…in fact I have read it before posting this. When taken with what the Supreme Court (which the IRS has to follow) has ruled to be 'income" it clearly shows that the Federal Income Tax does not apply to me.

Your misinformed.

Your misinformed.
Its funny because you keep saying that but you never provide evidence? I wonder why? Show me where the Supreme Courts ruling on what is considered “income” applies to my wages.

All I can say on this is try not paying your taxes and you will find the IRS attaching your wages, or taking your home and leaving you with nothing but the clothes on your back. smile That comment was supposed to be funny.

The federal income tax is perfectly fine, no need to question it. It’s in your Constitution and by working in America, you therefore agree to be taxed.

I wanted to know if Christians are morally obligated to pay the federal income tax? Now before people actually post the CCC regarding Christians being obligated to pay taxes I think one should remember that the Federal Income Tax is a voluntary tax that if imposed would be unconstitutional. Contrary to popular belief the Federal Income Tax does NOT fund our government because if it did how did our government survive from 1776 to 1913 without it? The Federal Income Tax supports the Federal Reserve and the Federal Reserve is about as Federal as Federal Express. Plus there is no law anywhere stating that I have to pay the Federal Income Tax and if you disagree please provide me with the actual law so I can be corrected.

Now as a Christian am I obligated to fund private banks and if so why? If not then am I doing the right thing by not paying the Federal Income Tax since I would be doing my part in riding my Country of the private banks which have enslaved it?
Federal income tax is certainly NOT optional. Paying it is the law. I reference you to the very first section of the federal tax code: fourmilab.ch/uscode/26usc/www/t26-A-1-A-I-1.html . Please not the word “impose” throughout the text.

It is not unconstitutional: the 16th admendment to the consitution:

“The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration”

And it funds the federal government, it does not fund the Federal Reserve Bank, that is just completely off the wall and shows absolutely no knowledge of our economic system.

PS: do you have to make all of your posts in such a large font?

Didn’t Jesus say to “pay to Caesar the things that are Ceasar’s and to God the things that are God’s.” The Jews of 2000 years ago surely thought the Roman taxes just as onerous as we think federal income taxes are.

I believe the key is not in refusing to pay the tax, but in persuading our elected leaders to reform our country’s finances, to spend our tax money wisely and morally, and to ensure that the tax system is fair to everyone.

The 16th Amendment states in its entirety, “The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration.”

there are anti-tax radicals who say the 16th amendment was not properly ratified. it’s complete bull. but no one argues over the definition of income. the 16th amendment is clear on that

The Federal Income Tax is fine when imposed correctly however the IRS is not imposing this tax correctly according to the Supreme Court.

Income received from the inalienable rights of property (rents from real estate) or (income from labor or personal investments) can only by taxed with a direct tax with apportionment, according to the Constitution and the Supreme Court. There are no direct taxes imposed by the federal government today. The income tax is an excise tax on corporate profit, from whatever source.

I will stop the font if that bothers you.

Show me how the federal income tax funds the government. Dont just make claims. Also the Supreme Court as I have stated (and shown) time and time agains have ruled on what is considered to be 'income" accoding to the 16h Ammendment so please do some research.

Again you are misinformed.
explain

Stratton’s Independence v. Howbert231 U.S. 399 (1913) "As has been repeatedly remarked, the corporation tax act of 1909 was not intended to be and is not, in any proper sense, an income tax law. This court has decided in the Pollock Case that the income tax of 1894 amounted in effect to a direct tax upon property, and was invalid because not apportioned according to population, as prescribed by the Constitution. The act of 1909 avoided this difficulty by imposing not an income tax, but an excise tax upon the conduct of business in a corporate capacity. Evidently Congress adopted the income as the measure of the tax to be imposed with the respect to the doing of business in corporate form* because it desired that the excise should be imposed.***

**Doyle v. Mitchell Bros. Co.**247 U.S. 179 (1918) This case concerns the Corporation Excise Tax Act of August 5, 1909. The court stated: *An examination of these and other provisions of the act makes it plain that the legislative purpose was not to tax property as such, or the mere conversion of property (into cash), **but to tax the conduct of the business of corporations organized for profit **by a measure of the gainful returns from their business operations and property from the time the act took effect. As was pointed out in Flint v. Stone Tracy the tax was imposed 'not upon the franchises of the corporation irrespective of their use in business, **nor upon the property of the corporation, *but upon the doing of corporate or insurance business and with respect to the carrying on thereof’; an exposition that has been consistently adhered to.

The 16th amendment is clear which is why the Supreme Courty ruled on what income is considered to be and has upheld this ruling. The 16th ammendment has not been ratified and you cannot provide me with any proof that it has been.
