Feedback please on "Young Life" organization

I have been a christian all my life raised in the Lutheran church. I have two teen aged children one of which has been affiliated this year with a group called “Young Life”. She wanted to go to “Young Life” camp. I am trying to understand why it bothers me that this group is sooo pushy about Christianity. If she is to be pushed into anything I can’t think of anything better than Gods word But something still tells me this is not a group for her. I would love anyone’s insight into this.

After discussing my uncomfortable feelings about going to camp, my daughter decided it would be best if she stayed home, so she won’t be going. My question, however, is more about why “I” have the feelings I do. I don’t tend to judge people on which type of religion they have, in fact just the opposite. I think anyone who has the belief in Christ whatever way they feel comfortable is great.

I feel guilty that I feel she shouldn’t be a part of this groups ministry. Shouldn’t I embrace the fact that she wants to be following the good word of God, regardless of how she hears it?
 
I’m sure it would differ from group to group, so It might have been fine, but I’ve also run across some Young Life groups that tend to be anti-Catholic. Usually best to stick with Catholic organizations. Maybe there’s a Life Teen or other youth group around…

I agree with your concerns though. Even if the group wasn’t anti-Catholic, the laid-back or emotion based faith can be attractive especially to young people and even if they weren’t actively trying to draw her away from the Church, it could still end up happening.

I see you are a Lutheran. You’ve obviously raised a girl who wants to fellowship with like minded Christians and I agree that’s a great thing.

I don’t know what’s available Lutheran kids especially with the various synods. Have you considered looking into a mission trip within your synod?
 
In general any Christian group, including Catholics or organization where pride takes over is completely void of grace and should be avoided. I am not sure what Young Life is all about but if there is a speck of pride I would avoid it.

I was a member of Young Life at my high school back in 1971 in the Deep South and found it a tremendously enriching ecumenical experience though I was often times discriminated against by older people for being a Catholic or papist.

If anyone is still calling Catholics “papists” I would avoid it.

I think you misunderstood me. When I said older people I was referring to middle aged and old people in 1971 not any students. But then again I can recall some Catholics back before I left Boston warning us kids about Protestants and Jews too.
