There was a related thread on the Moral Theology page, and I think it should have been on this page. It was also rather one-sided, providing a lot of informatino from the same groups who support rather radical population control. So this interview was in the WSJ this morning, and I thought it was very good. I thought I would move the conversation to where it seems to me to be more appropriate.

The article is sound.

Free enterprise and science can enable everyone to be fed.

All governments must enable both, encourage self-reliance, stability. democracy, the rule of law, sound education and the work ethic.

Populations in nearly all countries are aging and a demographic winter is approaching – there is no reason to scare anyone with the over-population scam.
 
we have two countries at least in the midst of famine today, caused not by a shortage of food, but by corrupt governments and civil conflicts that prevent the judicious distribution of food.

for a government to tell its people there are too many of you to feed, so we are going to allow you to die of starvation or be killed in civil wars is the most depraved extreme example of the culture of death that rules this planet. De-population advocates if you notice are universal in being among the richer people of the world, the 20% who contol 80% of the wealth and are always happy to kill more poor people so they can claim even more.
 
If everyone in America got rid of their TV sets and sent their cable bill money to Christian Foundation for Children and the Aged, Save the Children, UNICEF and other such organizations, we would stop world hunger within one year. The solution is simple. It would also immeasurably improve the lives of those Americans.

Genuine assistance is necessary.

It’s high time that we realised that if you give a man a fish you feed him for a day; teach a man how to fish and he won’t starve for his entire life.
