My situation is kind of complex but please bear with me. I had an internship (virtual) that seemed pretty legit and my boss never gave me a reason to doubt anything. My situation is unique because of physical limitations, things beyond my control, so it was a win-win. Then the company was “sold” and I eventually found out my new “boss” was a fraud. I’ll spare the details but the evidence I found was concrete. I was scammed. Thankfully all I lost was time and confidence.
It’s been almost a month and I still feel like I let my family and friends down. I have a college degree but due to my medical condition and where I currently live, finding any position is very challenging. I have told very few people outside of my family what really happened as it is so embarrassing and I have a hard time even thinking about what happened as it is still difficult to wrap my mind around.
I keep thinking I should tell people sooner than latter as they will be asking but I am having a difficult time bringing myself to do it. My sister told me it is sort of like a trauma or a shock to the system and I just need more time. It’s ironic I can tell myself I did everything in good faith, but still feel responsible…
