I am probably going to seem silly for posting this. But…

I am having really, really bad burning abdominal pain. I have had it all day, and now it seems to be reaching its worst. Everyone in my household is asleep, and there is no one to talk to, so I thought I would ask for prayers. 😦

I think it is stress-related. 🤷

Also, does anyone have any advice about how to keep yourself from stressing out so much? I am a college student and the semester just ended for me. During the school year, I am constantly on edge, worrying about my grades and hoping to get straight A’s. And so if anyone could give me some pointers, I’d really appreciate it.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

God bless

You can be assured of my prayers that you heal quickly.

Student stress goes back centuries…I recommend carving out specific times each day/week for exercise. When I was studying, I always worked in a walk outside. Say I was studying for 2 hours, I’d close the books and walk for 15-20 minutes, stretch out, breathe, and come back to study more. It was something to look forward to and I always felt fresher.

You are in my prayers.

Be sure to go to doctor if your symptoms don’t disappear overnight.

And here is what I understand based on working with teens and young adults with anxiety-type symptoms. Anxiety can affect the stomach and the lungs, and can cause muscle aches, headaches and neck aches.

There is a good book called “The Mood Cure” by Julia Ross. The book starts with quizzes on different body systems: thyroid, adrenals, serotonin, blood sugar, etc. Take the tests at the beginning of the book, and on the ones that you fail, go to the chapters that address those systems. Many of us are deficient in serotonin and college stress only makes it worse. It’s like a reservoir; we are already low in our reservoir when high school is done; college work dips us down lower and lower. We need to build up our stores so our brain will work properly.

Tryptophane or 5HTP, are amino acids that you can buy in a nutrition or vitamin store/department to build up serotonin levels back to a functioning level. When your serotonin levels are restored, so is your melatonin level usually. These are not drugs but be sure to read Ross’ precautions for taking these nutritional supplements. Everyone I know who has tried this has improved their health, thinking process, and nervous symptoms. I wish I knew about this book when I was in college. During midterms and finals I was going to the hospital with panic attacks that I thought were heart attacks!

If it continues hurting you should check with your dr…try eating yoghurt or drinking milk to line your stomach, also peppermint tea is great for sore stomach, chamomile tea is great for relaxing you if you are stressed, or anxious

You may have an ulcer. I would recommend seeing your doctor.

It sounds corny, but get a large can of some kind (5 lb. coffee cans are good), decorate the outside with pretty paper, ribbons, stickers etc. and name it your “God Can.” Whenever you have a worry that you can’t let go of, get a piece of paper (I use index cards) and write it down. Then, say a prayer and give that worry to God to handle. Put the paper or car into the can and shut the lid on it. Whenever you start to fret about your concern, remind yourself that “God Can!” - He can handle it.

Also, saying the rosary and doing adoration are the 2 best stress cures I know of. 👍

Go to see a doctor if you continue to have the abdominal pain. Don’t write something off as stress unless other conditions have been ruled out.

Do you exercise? It really does help with stress.

I was like that freshman year of college. I did very well in high school, and college was more difficult in addition to the fact that I was living away from home for the first time and had an awful roommate. I pushed myself too hard trying to get straight As. Eventually as I became more comfortable, I stopped pushing myself so hard and just did what I could. You don’t need to get straight As. Even if you are planning on grad school, unless you want to go to an ivy or something, doing well overall will be fine (I ended up with mostly As and Bs, and a couple of Cs). I’ve never had an employer ask what my GPA is and I did get an advanced degree. You don’t have to be perfect.

Abdominal burning sounds like an ulcer. Stress can make you vulnerable to them but never fear, they are easily sorted with a dose of antibiotics. If you still have it tomorrow or it gets worse soon, get to the doctor. They can be a problem if you don’t deal with them.
