As the years go by I’m realizing how little I have things figured out.
The confidence of my youth (if I even ever had it then) seems all dried up.
Anxiety, fear, and self-doubting form the background themes in my head.

This all seems to have precipitated from a series of bad changes at my work. These feelings are related to that, but I am now realizing how deep the roots actually stretch.

I don’t even know why I’m posting this.

At my work I’m in a rough environment and it only amplifies these feelings. It’s loud, I try to reason with the people to be more considerate (I work at a bank) and it just leads to me getting mocked.

Maybe I just needed to get it off of my chest.

Jesus loves you. Remember that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Welcome to the forum. I pray that you get the help you need. God bless.

I’m sorry to hear that. Trust me, we’ve all been there!

Hang in there, friend. I, too, have had bad experiences at work with co-workers. Keep in mind that our employers recruit folks from all walks of life. Some of those people we will “click” with and others we will not. Thank goodness we are able to pick our friends and we don’t have to rely on our employers to pick them for us! Keep the faith and hold your head up high. I’ll pray for you.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

You won’t hear this much from advice-givers, but if your job isn’t permanent or that important to you for now, then don’t stand for it! I figured out a long time ago that doing something you hate just for the money is never a good idea. Do what you want man!

Also don’t mind what other people think, it means nothing. Remember that when the world hates you, it’s because they hated Jesus first. You’re not alone! I went through a very similar thing about a year ago, it lasted almost the entire 2012! I guess you can call it a mid-life crisis, nothing just made sense anymore, except one thing, the only thing that matters, the only thing that has always been there and will always be there; the fact that Jesus loves me.

I strongly suggest you get back in touch with your faith. Start with Scripture reading bit by bit, may I recommend the Psalms, Jeremiah or the Gospels as a general start guideline. As said, attend church more, go to confession, make peace with your past actions and get them off your chest. Go to Eucharist! You’ll feel better in no time, I promise!

It is no great thing to associate with the good and gentle, for such association is naturally pleasing. Everyone enjoys a peaceful life and prefers persons of congenial habits. But to be able to live at peace with harsh and perverse men, or with the undisciplined and those who irritate us, is a great grace, a praiseworthy and manly thing. All our peace in this miserable life is found in humbly enduring suffering rather than in being free from it. He who knows best how to suffer will enjoy the greater peace, because he is the conqueror of himself, the master of the world, a friend of Christ, and an heir of heaven. (from The Imitation of Christ by Thomas A. Kempis, Book II, Chapter 3)

Liam,

Perhaps you can use this time to see if it is time for you to make a change in your life. Many times, when we are challenged by situations we are going through, it is because we need to do something different than what we are doing. Look at your options and try to come up with a plan to get out of the situation you are in, be it going back to school to make a career change, or simply getting a job somewhere else. Do not let a group of people make you feel that there is something wrong with you or sap you of your own confidence.

I second the idea of a retreat. Use it to ask God for his guidance. He is there if only we seek Him out and ask for his help. Knock, and the door shall be opened.

May God bless you and guide you.

Wow… what a difference a couple of years and some great suffering can make!!

The post of mine that lead off this thread is kind of humorous to read now.
It’s crazy to see the self-pitying person I was. I still struggle with that at times… but, by God’s grace, not nearly as much.

That first post up there came right before I fell into a very deep and very dark pit of anxiety, insomnia, and depression (and all of the little bundles of joy that go along with them).

On February 13th of 2013 I fell into the mire and muck of anxiety and depression. And… it’s the best thing that could have ever happened to me.

My life wasn’t bad at all… it was just the way I reacted to the struggles of life. It was that reaction of mine that lead to the anxiety and depression.
I truly believe that God allowed me to go through that anxiety and depression so as to grow out of being the person that I was.

I handle stress so much better now. Those work issues? Sure, at times they kind of bug me. But nowhere near to the extent that I used to let them. When the suffering comes I completely accept it, and carry that burden for as long as I need to… offering it up to God. Which is such a different attitude from the one I had back in very early 2013.
And I never would have grown and developed if it wasn’t for the despair, pain, and hopelessness that came along with anxiety and depression.

God bless!!!
