I’m feeling this tug to check out one of the Eastern Catholic Churhes in the area but I’m a little timid.

I feel that if I ended up deciding to become Eastern Catholic my lifestyle would have to change because it wouldn’t be fitting for me to practice many Latin traditions which I am so used to.

Advice on how to go about this?

Nothing says you have to change your lifestyle or anything. Just go to the Liturgy and see how you like it and then take it from there.

Going to an Eastern Catholic liturgy is no problem. They’re in full communion in the Catholic Church.

I see no reason to not go and see what an Eastern Catholic church is like. It won’t, of course, be representative of them all.

There is no reason not to maintain your Latin Catholic devotions.

I also felt this way before my first visit to an Eastern Catholic Church. That was 8 years ago and now it is where I call home.

If you decide to become a parishioner you can still keep your Latin devotions. I would caution you, and there may be some that would disagree, that if you do decide to regularly attend an Eastern parish that you go all in. We are separate Churches with different forms of expression of the faith. Mixing two traditions can be a difficult thing to do. Yes, we are Catholic, just as Catholic as the Latin rite, but what makes us Catholic is our communion with Rome.

Go and enjoy! Don’t look into the book 😂 the responses are not difficult and you will have a more joyful experience. I’m sure that the parish will welcome you with open arms and you will have several parishioners invite you to fellowship after the Divine Liturgy.

Keep us posted and tell us what you thought!
