Feeling alone in my liberal university

I think it is a lot more common than you think to feel isolated while going to school. I was a “reentry” (definition: old) lady when I went back. I was often the oldest person in the class. Not a whole lot in common with the students, but I did make friends with some of my profs. 🙂 Even the most liberal of universities (and I live in California, I know a thing or three about liberal schools) has pro-life groups, young Republicans, etc.

Sometimes God is also trying to give you a lesson in humility and charity. Show your faith in your love, respect, and kindness-- who knows. You may lead a strumpet to conversion. 😉

A reasonable and well thought out response.
I mistyped earlier.
I’m not surprised pagan barbarians get upset when one -]attacks/-] rejects their radical ideology of rebellion.
I would not want to imply I’m the belligerent party here.

Perhaps the following will rise above the threshold of your sarcasm.

I use the language I do to illustrate the emotion and reality of the situation.

You probably think it an exaggeration. I would recommend (if you can stomach it) searching Youtube for University of Southern California followed by drinking, tailgates, or Greek parties.

Now, imagine a similar Hellish scene before, during, and after every home game of the Trojans.

And USC is a moderately conservative university, at least politically.

Yes, according the Google’s Ngram analysis of books it has digitized, the word gained popularity in 1800, hit its peak usage in 1815, then went into a steep decline.
ngrams.googlelabs.com/graph?content=strumpet&year_start=1760&year_end=2000&corpus=0&smoothing=3

There was minor blip of popularity between 1925-1960. Then it slipped back into disfavor.

Obviously, calling a woman a strumpet, or any of the more common terms in modern use, is uncharitable. I think its use says at least as much about the person saying it as about the person it is applied to. The use of less judgmental, and more descriptive, words would be better.

Of course, the OP is venting in this thread. And that is okay. But he should be aware that the use of that word, or words similar to it, is not acceptable.
I never used the word strumpet. It’s a term used to describe prostitutes! It has no place in this conversation. Why it was even mentioned, I have no clue.
I understand if you don’t want to say, but I am wondering what is your major? Is it really that specific that so few college/Univs. offer it? I take it you are in the USA since you meantioned Obama ruining the country… and that you have transfered from a few other places. Did all those places have the same problems as this one?

Do none of the Catholic Colleges/Univ offer your major?

I understand your OP as being more of a vent than you judging people. You’re frustrated, I think.
My major is in Creative Writing. And no, only the state university offers the major. And yes, I am currently residing IN the US, but at the same time, I’m not. Watch that careful oxymoron. 😃

All those other places did have the same problem. I’m starting to wonder if I’m the one with the problem. It’s like things are designed to get people away from church. And the teachers are motivating it. 🤷

I’ve always said I was born in some other time period, or at least in a different country, since I really have very little in common with people here.

This situation is different. These people are actively handing out fliers with their beliefs on them.
I can get pictures of the situation if you want to see. In the hallways, a man is constantly passing out fliers about, and wait for the drumroll, Karl Marx. And other things promoting homosexuality, under the cover of “tolerance”. I know how these things work.

Humility and charity…if this is the case, it’s becoming a hard lesson. Once I don’t get along with someone, it stays that way.

Maybe you could try starting the Catholic club 🙂 maybe then you’ll meet like-minded people! even though I agree it’s a lot of work. You could start by maybe finding people who might be interested, and then form a team and start the club together 🙂

God bless!
I’ll just post up some of the questions in the paperwork that make no sense to me on here. Does anyone have a problem with that?

Wow Raskolnikov,

I hadn’t pictured you as a young person! Your clarity or expression is excellent! BRAVO on such a fine mastery of the language at such a young age. Most kids can’t write worth squat nowadays; you give me hope.

🙂
Thanks. Pehaps I’ve just spent so much time around old folks that I’ve adapted their mannerisms. 😃

I don’t know what paganism, barbarianism, or conservatism have to do with college parties. My experience has indicated that conservatives are just as capable throwing wild parties as liberals, so i’m not sure what the political correlation you’re drawing is.

I’m not drawing any correlation. I’m just mentioning that USC is often mentioned as politically conservative.

I am very sorry. I confused the response of another member with yours. I should have been more careful, and regret falsely criticizing you. 😦

I apologize and will try to be less rash in the future.
