Shunning is usually inappropriate social aggression. It is not to be done for light reasons. If someone is going to shun someone else in the social circle–and I’d absolutely shun this person for the time being, because this was extremely lewd and aggressive behavior on his part–then it is not out of place to let the host know why.Catholics are not supposed to mention the shortcomings of others unless they have a need to know or in search of counsel.
Your point that deciding how and to whom to disclose the situation is not a light matter is well-taken, however. Having said that, what he did was a firing offense. Considering the level of social aggression he exhibited, it is not unjust if it turns out to have been social suicide for him. (That is, assuming he does not repent. I am not saying it is unforgivable.)
