Does anyone else just feel miserable while in a state of mortal sin? My church only has confessions on Saturday afternoon, but I’m worried something bad will happen before that. On Friday, I will be getting an exam back that I’m very worried about and that because I didn’t go to confession, I failed it. I experienced a couple of miracles when receiving exams back, but I was free from mortal sin during that period.

We don’t fail exams because of sin, we fail exams because we did not study.

Make a true act of contrition every night before bed. When the “feelings” start in your head, say “I have repented to God and am going to Sacramental Confession.”

Remember, God knows your sin and calls you by your name. Satan knows your name and calls you by your sins.

If you don’t want to wait til Saturday, call the parish and arrange confession today.

We all have worries when it comes to sin and confession.
Your going or not going to confession in a timely manner has little or nothing to do with your exam.
Just go to confession as soon as you can.
I am not miserable when I go in, but I do feel terrific when I hear the priest say that I am absolved of my sins. 🙂

Hmmm let’s think about this for a moment. If I follow ur line of thinking you believe that because you didn’t go to confession it follows that you will fail your exam? Seems to be falling awfully close to superstition there we don’t fail exams because we didn’t go to confession we fail them because we didn’t prepare and study or didn’t study as much as we should… Also what are we calling miracles here?

St Frances De Sales said (I am paraphrasing) that when one is in a states of sin the soul struggles against sin and that’s why we feel like this as it tries to get away from the sin but obviously it can’t as it is in the body. The more it struggles the worse you feel and the more muddled up you get like a fly in a spiders web. The next worst thing to sin is anxiety/stress so this is not good for you are you are more likely to sin in this anxious state. So keep calm and cling to God. He advised fleeing to God in times of trouble ie temptation.

So as the others have said above ask God for help immediately and/or arrange a sooner confession.
St Faustina advised fleeing to the Sacred Heart, as did other saints. It works for me.

Keep at it. Talk to your instructors about tutoring or different study techniques!

Look again: “Or by appointment”

Do not:
  1. Subject yourself to unneeded angst!
  2. Tie failure of an exam to sin, unless you failed to study.
Look around - academic success or failure is not tied to being in a state of grace.

True is meaning it. It can be imperfect (that you fear hell) or perfect (that you are only sorry that you offended God), just be honest.
