Feeling burned out and insecure in ministry

Have been serving in a Healthcare Ministry at nursing homes with my church for about 4 or 5 years now, and am feeling burned out at this point. I’d like to get out, or at least limit my serving time. Yet too often we’re short-handed, since many of our ministers opt for home-bound visits or Sunday communion service (our own group does the weekdays).
Or, our leader will need to leave town or something, and sometimes this leads to two or three other of our group taking off at the same time. There have been times when it has only been two (including myself) working at a nursing home Mass. This, in addition to other ministries I’m involved in, have lately made for my feeling overwhelmed.

Also, there is personality conflict going on right now, and this is creating an awkward and stressful situation for me, from which I really would like to remove myself. Please pray that I’ll know what to do, and that I’ll have the peace, charity and humility to handle this situation in the right way. I’d rather not go into all the gory details; I simply ask your prayers.

Praying for you not to give up. You don’t know how many souls you are helping. Even if you feel no one appreciates you, God does! Praying for it all to work out…

There’s a time to every purpose unto heaven. If you feel this ministry is not working well for you now you should feel free to move on. You have been a wonderful servant of God for YEARS now and it’s time for someone else to help out if you are burned out.

Your kind hearted nature shows through your post and I am certain no matter what your decision that you will handle it with charity.

I’ve not met you but know that if the spirit in you is as strong and loving as the ones who’ve led me to the Lord, as well as the ones that keep me coming back, than I myself appreciate you as well. This is a GREAT answer, Mary! I too felt the charity from the OP. I just wanted to give a little comfort by telling how much regular people appreciate folks who help with the Mass even if they don’t always tell you. There was no one to help at our little mission church so I finally volunteered. It was a scary thing for me, but I did it for Jesus. And now several others are helping too! Praying for all to go right! Jesus, I trust in YOU. Please, take care of everything!

Praying for you. God bless you for doing this. I took communion to shut ins for several years but had to give it up due to balance problems.

In all honesty, I felt like I was having a huge pity party over this (and probably was, in part). LOL, this morning I told myself: “I feel like Elijah (when he wanted to give up), but I think I’m acting like Ahab!” 😃

God bless you for your service. I once was told that the definition of Christian love was performing a kind service or assisting someone, even when you may not like them, and they may not appreciate you. Your actions speak to God.​
