Hi everyone,

I guess I am hitting a low recently.

Like I feel like there’s an emptiness in me that I don’t know how to fill. I pray with my family every night (around 11pm) but I am too tired to pray. I am too busy during the day to pray as well. My work is very demanding on me.

I feel like although Jesus has blessed me a lot even though I don’t deserve his blessings since I am not holy, I still feel emptiness in me.

So, I’ve been trying to fill this emptiness by various ways which have led me to having addictions sadly.

It’s also difficult for me to go for daily Mass and confession due to my hectic schedule.

Any motivation out there on how I can stop feeling so empty?

I wish you could go and spend quiet time with Jesus in adoration :thinking:You could try making a spiritual communion perhaps ,and just little prayers through out the day.
I’m going to mass in the morning,so I’ll remember you there.Take care and God bless.

It sounds like you are tired and perhaps overworked in general.

While it’s nice that you pray at 11 pm with your family, I can see a person with a busy day being very tired at that time and not being able to pray very well. I personally have found that I cannot do an examen at bed time due to being too tired, and that if I try to read Scripture after about 10 pm it is highly likely I will fall asleep reading before a half hour has elapsed. I would suggest that you schedule 5 or 10 minutes of prayer time into a part of your day when you are awake, such as during your commute, on a meal break just before or after you eat, etc.

Also, if you have time to stop out and take care of your addiction, you have time to pray instead of consuming the addictive substance.

If you find a little more time for the Lord every day you will stop feeling so empty and you may even find this leads to you wanting to spend more time with Him. The Lord can be addictive in a good way.

Hello, that is a really hard place to dwell for any length of time. I had somewhat a similar situation in my life. I will be paying for you and recommend a couple of books, though you likely do not have time to read them. “Into Your Hands Father” by Wilfrid Stinnison and “Abandonment to Divine Providence” by Rev. Jean-Pierre de Caussade S.J… Both of these books discuss living with God and in His Will in the moment in time present to us now. It is a simple concept that can be life changing for busy people.

I also would like to add a few statements that I learned from Father Mike Schmitz when he gave a presentation in Discipleship course I was involved in. They have helped me keep in mind what is truly important when deciding on how much to take on in my life…

-A disciple cannot afford not to say no to many things so that he can say yes to the few things that God calls him to do. (I took care in wording this, it is a little convoluted by accurate in what it is stating).
-“Your environment will eat your motivation, discipline, and will power for breakfast.”
-“You are responsible for the pace and the structure of your life.”
-“We are often responsible for our own misery.”
-“A disciple is someone who is willing to change their schedule to get closer to Jesus.”
-“A disciple is someone who is willing to change their schedule to get other people closer to Jesus.”

Dear melvfe,

Only the Lord can fill the “empty” heart in a way that can satisfy our longing. Addictions to food, drink, TV or any other “comfort” we may seek instead of God, will never satisfy our longing.

St. Augustine said it best: “My heart is restless, O Lord, until it rests in you”.

When you begin to feel low – that is the time to look up! Ask the Lord to fill your emptiness. Jesus told us: “Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find. Knock and the door will be opened to you” (cf Mt 7: 7-11)

As someone has already suggested, pray during the day – short prayers-- but with faith and in earnest like: “Jesus, I trust in You!” Mary, help of Christians pray for us. St. Joseph, Man of unshakeable Hope, pray for us.

I will remember you expecially in my Rosary and chaplet of Divine Mercy today.

Thank you everyone for your prayers!

I’ll definitely keep in mind your advice.

Dear melvfe: Addictions may need you to reach out to qualified professionals who know the human body’s reaction to substances and the best proven ways to work out of addiction. That aside, or in conjunction with that effort, I’d suggest – If you feel you’d like God to welcome you to joy again, maybe try more and more this simple approach: to thank him. Thank God for what you have, for your job, for your apparently loving, Christian family. Thank him for your job and thank him for the challenge of being too busy. You can thank him in seconds at any time of day. His reply to you is bound to be something like, “you’re welcome” and to be welcomed by God is awesome. And He’s let us know we are more than welcome. That is the beginning of conversation, your true heart felt prayer. What do you think?

Thank you!

I will remember to thank God for those small moments throughout the day!
