The five boys I mentioned are it my friend, and the priest would give me a resounding NO if I went in that direction. He does not push for vocations, unfortunately. He thinks it’s a lonely life. I am the one who has mentioned it to the boys and has tried to make sure they are getting fired up about what they do.
More excuses. I suppose if your pastor actually acts that way then you are pretty much dead in the water.

I think I would start quietly recruiting adult males that you are sure would take serving very seriously. If your pastor needs help in being sold on the idea, maybe the potential servers could help there. Elevate the “professionalism” of your altar server group and more and more boys/men will want to take part.

And for anyone who thinks it all has to do with Modernism!!

Here’s my parish, not so modern!

Why are females wearing clerical garb – cassock and surplice?:bigyikes:
Because we chose to be traditional. You need to go back and read all my other posts. I am not against girl altar servers. The father wanted these cassocks. And they are sold for altar servers in the catalog! sheesh!

I am curious as to why Pope JPII formally allowed the use of female altar servers? Further, why wasn’t it explained to all Catholics worldwide so there wouldn’t be all this wasted debate? Pope JPII invoked a change that was certain to confuse and upset literally millions of people. Why no explanation for the change?

We all hear rants about “liberals” who “forced” the Pope to allow female altar servers by disregarding the existing instructions. I don’t believe the Church works that way, so I do wonder why the change was made.

If you look at it, approval to use female altar servers were given yet language in RS strongly (if not explicitly) supports. Somewhat mixed signals like that really waste a lot of resources within the Church.
All of those who seem bothered by the presence (or absence!) of female altar servers seem to be as ignorant about the reason(s) as I am…

My granddaughter as you well know posts on this forum and is very hurt and comments directed towards the female altar servers…she is on vacation just now and I have urged her to make a post in this thread explaining how she came to serve w/ her brother…

BTW…she recently received an award from her bishop naming her an “Outstanding Catholic Youth”… and… she also received the “Best All Around” student from her Catholic school which she just graduated from…👍

anamchara, I wonder why your priest seems like that. It would seem to me that being an active priest is one of the most fulfilling and rich lifestyles to lead. It might be lonely at times but standing up for truth, trying to be loyal and following God usually is lonely.

In Christ
Scylla
Oh scylla, he is just tired and old, about ready to retire. He spent most of his career creating our cities food bank for the poor. He is very well respected in our city for the work he has done with the poor. He admits to not being a very good parish priest but he did let me start this ministry and I am doing my best.

I don’t agree with excluding girls and I’ve said why 🙂

Your answer just about says it all:

“because we chose…”

Father is wrong… and there are no catholic supply houses that show the cassock/surplice worn by girls.

Next thing, you will want the girls (or their parents) to have the “right” to chose to wear a collar too.

By the way, if you were to really choose to be traditional (your words), the girls would not be trying to be altar boys.

Hi MrS…we meet again…tell me what is wrong w/ these???

Thank you!

I can’t say enough about Jessie your granddaughter Ann! She is an incredible example of wonderful Catholic youth! I have met her on the forums. She is intelligent, upright and faithful! A good role model for younger girls. I hope she does come and and say a few words 🙂

do you mean the albs, or the ones wearing them… picture is small.

My guess is that many who want the girls to be altar boys do not question the “lack” of albs for the readers.

Some have told me that they choose “not to serve”, because now they have the impression it is no longer special… “anyone can do it”

You don’t need to be so rude, there really isn’t a reason for this. The Father wanted me to purchase these. The man and company I order them from said they are both for girls and boy altar servers.

If you take the time and go back and read my posts I make every effort to teach my altar servers about vocations. My girls know they can never be a priest, why would you accuse me of pushing for this by making such a flippant comment like this one below.

I hope so…She loves the Faith and being an altar Server has deepened her spiritual life tremendously… she wants to be a Reader after confirmation… I suppose there will be another thread on female readers too…
Her brother is also an exemplary student and Catholic youth…and a most suitable “Vocation” one day…I pray…😉

Both…😃
 Some…do and some don’t.

MY Comment:

And it was not an accusation of you. It was a fear for what will/could come next.

You did say that you chose… and I believe that that is all that it is… your choice. Not a church directive, not a JPII endorsement, and certainly not “traditional” as you say your choice is.
