severus, let’s be sure we are understanding FaithBuild correctly, since her sentence (that you highlighted in boldface) is very interesting but complicated. Perhaps you could restate her sentence in plainer terms to be sure you’re understanding her. I’d also like to know exactly what parts of the thread you find pitiful.

To the KanMan lady, or whatever you may be: I’m rested now and am grasping my Tigger coffee cup with as much dignity as I can muster. Splendiferous. And I just read your phrase link on your signature and now don’t find the link quite as insensing as I did at midnight. Thanks for respecting us at least enough to do another post in the language of this thread, too.

So we’ve gotta be careful of oversimplifying and caricaturizing history as well as people (btw those drawing were geniously hysterical). But sometimes it’s impossible to entirely grasp that from the position that we stand in. It’s necessary, logical, and healthy to try and put the puzzle pieces together with the help of eachother, humbly. Believe it or not, we are all on the same team. I love the fact that you brought up the industrial revolution, but I still think ed needs an apology.

So, back to my bitterness. How can we solve this? ha ha. I recommend plenty of sleep, some Splenda, and a shiny new Tigger cup.
 
and when I said, Splenda, I didn’t mean I was trying to be falsely sweet. I literally use Splenda in my coffeee, so please don’t read into this too much! 😛

To save you insulting me again, ‘Kaninchen’ is the German word for ‘rabbit’, it’s not that hard.

Thank you but I am sure I understood clearly what Faithbuild said and meant. Perhaps more coffee to be able to even try to remember Kaninchen’s name?
 
Didn’t mean to insult him, was trying to be goofy. I’m sorry you took it as an insult, Kaninchen. I was trying to make peace and encourage everyone to loosen up a bit so we can have a conversation that everyone understands, instead of trying to out do eachother intellectually. I was very upset with your comment. It put everyone on the defensive. I should have reported it to the forum master instead of taking it on myself.

The Church supports equal rights for women. If that’s your understanding of Feminism, then I guess we both agree. But I don’t think it is. I’d like to know what parts of the thread you find “pitiful”, and why? It would be great if you could go into depth about the “why”, and how you define the term feminist.

To believe in equal rights is one thing, but to do it in an elitist or discriminant manner is incredibly contradictory.

There’s also another issue of this post. Anyone want to defend the college’s perspective? It’s a biggie, and maybe it should be addressed.

I would like to link Rachel’s Vineyard for anyone who may be struggling with leftover emotions from their abortion. It’s an incredible, healing retreat. Roughly one-third of women have had one. It is a personal and very traumatic experience. I don’t think it’s right to deny that. To do so would be a terrible disservice to women. Let’s take a moment to remember these buried families in our prayers. I’ve met so many women that can’t seem to move on from that experience. Bless them.

I am appalled.

This college is basically putting its own ideals and words in the mouth of their applicants. It didn’t sound as if they the applicant a choice, more like an ultimatum: Join us or else. It is playground tactics. This sounds like a form of bullying which I thought ‘Feminists’ would be against, if they are interested in defending women’s rights.

An eternal battle of the sexes. Women have rights equal to men in society. This has not often been the case as history shows us, but interestingly I believe women experienced periods of power in different cultures spread over different ages (too long to explain here, look up early european history) Kingdoms rise and fall and the wheel ever turns…

I’m expected to say ‘yes’ aren’t I?
When I was younger, I was filled with righteous wrath at the unfairness of boys getting preferential treatment (mostly against my big brother, poor sap). I hated doing traditional chores ( cooking, sewing), being taught ‘ladylike manners’ and especially giving in to arguments with my brother because ( wait for it…) He’s a boy!
The above heated exchange was with my grandparents who are set in their ideas, and I argued like a pro on every point of discussion of feminism til I was blue in the face.

Some notions of feminism though have rubbed me up the wrong way. As you may have guessed, I would hate to have someone give me an ultimatum on what I should support or approve. I can understand obedience to the Church as I am ultimately answerable to God for my actions on earth.
But while I must obey laws as a citizen of my country, I choose not to subject myself to the whims and fancies of Man/Woman’s own laws. It is not worthwhile. The laws today may change in a century, worse may even revert back to old laws.

What’s the sense in breaking our heads over this?
How do you see the world’s view of the woman’s role and value today? How do you think this view has evolved? How has this view affected you right now?

The ‘glass ceiling’, wage imbalances, sexual assault crimes, illiteracy, domestic abuse: these paint a bleak reality of women in my own country and the world in general.
On the other hand, there are handy tools today to overcome ignorance and support groups working to help rectify injustices for women.

This is a basis for hope for the future.
