That is a very interesting observation…makes some sense.

Age-grading exists in every culture and ancient languages have words for children. Age-grades are based on the group’s needs. In some cultures, these are before solid foods, solid foods to full weaning, weaning to the onset of puberty, a period up to seven years (but rarely longer) of courtship and special work training, and then the years of rearing children, then the age of wisdom and grandparenthood, then helpless old age.Actually, the concept of ‘childhood’ itself is relatively recent - once a child was capable of production (tending animals, opening ventilation doors in mines, things like that) they left ‘childhood’ and became units of production.
That’s why I used the term ‘childhood’ rather than ‘child’.Age-grading exists in every culture and ancient languages have words for children.
I wonder if that might be rather too revolutionary a concept for here?I think it’s time for a thread to discuss what effect industrialization has had on our basic image of the life-cycle. Want to start it? I’ll catch up.
Like I said I might not be getting into all the work a SAHM might do. I was just going real quick over the top of my head. And yes appointments are not a big thing to take care of. But combined with all those other things they are likely to be responsible for it adds up. And of course it;s going to vary from SAHM to SAHM. But that idea that most are lazy or have no time management skills or whatever is just untrue. Just because they aren’t always bringing money into the family doesn;t mean they are working hard. I mean just how many SAHM"s have you actually known and really gotten to know? Basically how many have you really asked just what their lives are like? Because yeah there is a handful that maybe have it easy. But believe it or not most stay at home moms arent like those on tv who have hired help and what not and appear to do nothing but sit around and gossip all day. I do kinda understand how you feel though cause I once felt it too though to a much lesser degree. I thought SAHM"S had it easy. Until I actually read accounts from many SAHM"S that proved me wrong. I have had people even say that they would rather be a working mom then a SAHM mom and the reason certainly wasn;t because they thoguht SAHM are lazy and have it easy. You would do well to look outside your own box as well.It was my grandmother that said this and convinced me, she is 90 something now, Im not sure because she always say old enough to know better. But she does have a lot of points. SAH parents do not have to work as hard as they did in the past. We have vacuum cleaners, hot water, dishwasher, washing machines, dryers, and half of our food is already prepared. I only plucked a chicken once in my life, I never want to do that again
Heck even our surfaces are easy to clean . Most SAH are lazy or just have bad time management skills either one. Ones that work from home I do not consider lazy because they are actually working
Seriously though Appointments? That is just a lame excuse. I went to the dentist twice a year and I had three siblings that also went at the same time, which was never during school. If I did have to go to the doctor we went on a Saturday. ( We were healthy though. If you have a disable child that needs constant care. Im fine with SAH parent because they are working.
Quality time. I remember my father use to butter my toast in the morning in his uniform, the smell of mothers perfume in the bathroom The “As long as you tried your best” routine when I got a B, which just made me work harder.I got hugged and kissed every night by mother when she came home. I have lots of good memories Yet I also learned to depend on myslef, and learned not to be lonely and to entertain myself, which is what is suppose to happen. I also realise that one day my parents are going to die. It will be sad, but I do dont depend on them for my happiness.
TOTAL BS. An example of how feminized and sexist the Church was becoming even before Vatican II. The history of civilization, the good Archbishop should be aware, has plenty of examples of women who do evil as well as good (think Eve, Delilah, Herodias, Queen Elizabeth I, etc.)Thought I would share a quote from Archbishop Fulton Sheen
“To a great extent the level of any civilization is the level of its womanhood. When a man loves a woman, he has to become worthy of her. The higher her virtue, the more her character, the more devoted she is to truth, justice, goodness, the more a man has to aspire to be worthy of her. The history of civilization could actually be written in terms of the level of its women.”
~Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
I see some folks think Sheen was a regular left-wing radical, him and Jesus I guess.Thought I would share a quote from Archbishop Fulton Sheen

I would be one of those women to agree as well. And might I add that Eve was the one who caused the world the greatest pain and suffering…she’s the reason that Christ had to come into the world and endure all that He did…of course, Adam was at fault as well…but it was Eve who enticed him.TOTAL BS. I absolutely refuse to put woman up on a pedestal and I absolutely refuse to be made to “prove” myself “worthy” of oh-so-exalted superior womanhood. Any man with any smidgeon of self-respect should do likewise. Why doesn’t a woman have to “prove” herself “worthy” of me, I wonder. Why is she deemed “intrinsically” worthy and I not. Anybody who thinks otherwise - even clerics - well they know where they can stick their opinion. It’s simple bigotry and nothing more.
Oh, and by the way, there are plenty of women who will happen to agree with me. I happen to be married to one of them.
Too bad Adam wasn’t a REAL man, otherwise he would never have let Eve entice him.I would be one of those women to agree as well. Interesting. 38 posts and you have already defined who are “authentic” Catholics. Ever heard the world humility? Or were you given powers of judgment we are unaware of?For the few authentic Catholics posting on this site:
Here is a link to an excellent online book, which will take some time to read and digest but is well worth the effort, that explains how feminists and liberals intend to remake our society in the image of the Stone Age or a ghetto by reinstituting matriarchal society:

Be sure to read all the volumes.
Guess what? I can’t imagine why anyone would care if you desire or don’t to place any woman on a pedestal. You’re deeply filled with hatred and i have great sympathy for your wife.TOTAL BS. Goodness the Church does not even teach such bigoted nonsense. I still deny that you are a woman at all. Just a dude trying to act like one and you are not doing a very good job.I would be one of those women to agree as well. And might I add that Eve was the one who caused the world the greatest pain and suffering…she’s the reason that Christ had to come into the world and endure all that He did…of course, Adam was at fault as well…but it was Eve who enticed him.
To the degree that one desires or needs to accept the Genesis account literally, the Church teaches that both man and woman were equally responsible for the “Fall”. I can but hazard the amount of self-loathing any “woman” must endure to place the entire fault upon her own sex, including Jesus’ suffering. I do not believe the poster is female, but only trying to vent his hatred of women by attempting to post as one, thinking that somehow the wrath of the readers will not descend so harshly.Too bad Adam wasn’t a REAL man, otherwise he would never have let Eve entice him.
One of the more noted things that is done on the internet is people can pose as any character they wish to assume just for the fun of it and to harass and mislead others. It’s a safe way for racists, bigots and others to vent against people they hate/fear, all the while pretending to be from those groups. But usually it becomes quite easy to define who they are really, wouldn’t you say?You know, the internet is an interesting thing. It allows virtually anybody with computer access to post pretty much anything. As a result, it is possible to find web pages containing info to back up what ever position you are putting forward (if not, you can just set one up yourself!). But the mere fact than someone posts something does not make it true or even sane. Many times folks simply their post their own opinions, things that can in no way be substantiated, verified or supported. Nuts and crackpots about, they always have. But the fact that they now have a wider audience does not make them any more credible.
The anrgy, bitter and paranoid have always been eager to shove their opinions down the throats of others. Logic and reason seldom, if ever, enter the equation.![]()
