Feminisms effect on women

To get back to the topic at hand

We’ve discussed how feminism has affected divorce, rape laws, custody disputes, promiscuous behavior, right to hold jobs, etc.

What do you think about competitive female athletes? Think that’s a bad thing? Just thought about it with the Olympics coming up and everything and a few of my students are “student athletes” and pay their way through college with scholarships.

A while back women were not allowed to have their own sports…now schools are required to…except football. I do know some women on the football teams at different highschools b/c they are better kickers than the guys at that school.

I don’t assume anything about you. I figure everyone is good unless they prove otherwise. I don’t know you. All I know is that you seem to love to argue endlessly and you do it in an uncharitable way. It doesn’t appear that your goal is to win people to your way of thinking, otherwise you would be a little more patient and kind. Why are you here?

I’m far from the most uncharitble here for sure. I am here because there are people who are confused and they need to know that what they read here on this forum is a tiny minority of Catholic thinking. In fact it’s not very Catholic at all. It’s mostly fundamentalist in nature. that is not what I came for, I came to have rational discussions on intellectual issues of theology and biblical studies. Instead I found this backward thinking that one would have thought was not present in the world any longer.

When someone calls themselves “female” and then continues over several posts to denigrate women in the most awful ways, I assume I’m being duped. It happens on the internet. It has happened to most of us at one time or another.

Forums are about argument. I have yet to find one that wasn’t. Why are you here?

Again, simply because I don’t agree with the feminist movement…I am labeled a man…yea…this is pretty typical of the “liberal compassion and tolerance” for all…except of course, those who disagree with them!

Under what theory would a visit to your website be proof as to your sex? Your’re being labeled a man has nothing to do with being against the feminist movement. Many women have been and will continue to be so. It is your abject hatred of all things female that suggests it.

But instead you employ selective reading and then make false accusations and assumptions…again, demonstrating your “liberal compassion and tolerance” for all…

Take a look folks…this is what I meant when I said that the feminists seek superiority NOT equality…the above clearly demonstrates an absolute elitist attitude.

My position simply reflects a human prospective. Human beings come in general categories of male and female. other than some physical differences there is little else that separates them. There is some evidence, and it is slight that there are brain differences that create some minor leanings one way or the other, but it is most unclear whether they are indeed of importance, or only become so by social conditioning. I see no specialness about women or men. We are both equally good at most things. I am exceedingly happily married to a man. We divide up work at home based on who likes to do it, who is good at it, and not much else.

You’re the one trying to place women in some second place status as evil and somehow not meant to be in positions of leadership. You’re the one crabbing about how you made it by yourself (you didn’t of course, but on the backs of countless women and undoubtedly some men) and are having such a time because women are so darned uppity and superior acting. Check yourself.

I don’t think it’s hatred of all things female, but an objection of many things liberal. You seem to think that when ever people disagree with the women’s “liberation” movement, it makes them automatically a misogynist. It’s quite the opposite. It’s because they care about the moral well being of the woman that they object to such atrocities as the Pill and abortion. I myself am an autonomist, but I still think that ABC is immoral. It doesn’t make me a misogynist.

I don’t view the pill as an atrocity at all, I find contraception perfectly fine although I abhor abortion. Issues of contraception were in the forefront long before the 60’s women’s movement. Women did not as far as I know push the pill. It was something that had been worked on for years. If there were a male equivalent that worked, undoubtedly we would have both. I find NFP to be essentially contraception by a different name. I do not buy all the rhetoric attached. It still amounts to “trying to keep from getting pregnant.” God, should he choose to do so, can negate contraception as easily as he can negate NFP.

Sadly, I think far too many Catholics “think” like you do…and don’t really know the whole Truth of the faith…you are willing to, to use your words, “degenerate” the sanctity of the family…because you want to conform to the secular world…that’s hardly following the Truth…picking and choosing what you want out of the faith, is something generally left to Protestants.

And its real hard to convince anyone that you are here for an “intellectual” debate when you continue to slander and make make false accusations of others.

Well, you are wrong…as Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, was key in pushing for the “pill” and its acceptance.

And your acceptance of contraception demonstrates how you like to “pick and choose” the teachings and doctrine of the Church to follow…thanks for making my point for me

As for your last comment…uh…YEA…God can choose to do whatever He wants…but that comment is like saying, "well I guess if abortion was so bad, God could choose to “negate it”.

Just because God has the ability to end evil whenever He wishes, does not mean that we can turn our back on the responsibility to STOP it when we can as well…nor can we ignore HIS teachings simply to suit our own lifestyle choices!

I played everything. I had no clue that playing house and playing war were considered games for different kids. I also worked and took care of a real house, or did my part, as did my fave bro, who is still a friend.
I loved babies and kitties and still do.
My dream wedding involves wild rosebushes, crocheted lace, and no groom. I don’t want to get married. It sounds horrible. But I do like pretty stuff. Just not all of it. And I get sick of the frilly business after a while.
When I was a Pentecostal and we had a party all the women sat on one end saying the same three things over and over: “My two-year-old is so active.”, “I was going to get my hair touched up.” and “This is good, who made it?” Not bad converation starters, but where I come from, a conversation goes somewhere, you don’t just say the same thing over and over. I’d try to respond conversationally: “They say two is a tough age.” “What do you call this stuff, anyway?” And be met with blank stares before the other women went back to endless repetitions. Well, I’d known women from many walks of life and never seen anything like that.
The men would stand on the other end bragging about fishing. I’d try to get in and they’d physically shut me out of the conversation. They’d close in and turn away from me. I just wanted to talk to folks. Even though I don’t fish. It’s too expensive. Sounds fun, though. It seemed to me the men had all the good times and the women lived in a glazed-over world where they didn’t even know they’d already said they were going to get their roots done. It’s better than that now. I had some good girlfriends at the old church, but they were sort of the tomboys of the group. There was so much pressure to get married. I thought about it all the time, wondering if I could stand it. It just sounded like a nightmare.

:yup: :yup: :yup: I can relate to what you’re saying. I’m pretty much a tomboy and I much prefer men’s conversations usually. I don’t fit in with the mothers and I’m too young for the seniors and I’m not welcome with the married couples because my husband doesn’t accompany me. I’m not single, yet I do just about everything alone (vacations, going out to eat, movies, etc.). I enjoy being married, but I would be just as happy if I were single.
