I hope you will reevaluate whether or not you like the idea of someone helping your child to think critically. It’s a good thing.
Until your child actually questions, affirms, and then owns a belief for him or herself, it is never going to truly be his or hers. This is the time to discuss with your child this issue and certainly not the time to punch someone in the nose as was jokingly, but very inappropriately, said by someone here.
It’s sad that every time I come on this board, it makes me quite sick to see that absolutely any differing of opinion is considered sinful. I guess I’m going to have to consider myself a progressive Catholic and just ignore the majority of what the so-called “apologetics” say. It makes me more than a little sad.
Do you teach a child not to touch a hot stove by telling them to touch it, until they finally figure out they better not listen to you if they don’t want to get hurt? You don’t have study under someone who disagrees with you to learn to think critically.

I’ve looked through the threads on this subject and can’t find it, so I hope someone can help. A friend of mine has a 12 year old daughter who is being instructed for confirmation, unfortunately by a feminist faith formation director with an “agenda.” The woman who is director has been telling the children that when they are confirmed they become adults in the church and that it is their responsibility to work to correct injustices, especially the prohibition on ordaining women. My friend is distraught about this, and is looking for how to handle it. She has explained to her daughter that this is not going to change, that the pope has spoken and that to oppose the pope’s teaching would be a sin. But she is concerned about the other children, past, present and future affected by this woman. Has anyone run into this before? Is it commonly part of sacramental preparation? The pastor is very supportive of this director, and is pretty liberal but I don’t know if he knows about this situation. Thanks for any help, especially if you have details on the material being used to support such a viewpoint.
I would go to the pastor and complain regarding the misrepresentation of Catholic teaching. If you did not get a response I would write a letter to the Bishop. I would continue up the chain of command, being always concerned with responding in love and facts.

I don’t blame your friend for being distraught and I think she is a wonderful mother and doing the right thing by correcting this error.

It is de fide doctrine that women are not valid matter for Orders. Thus it is strictly heresy to believe otherwise.

That woman needs to be reported to the parish and the diocese. If the parish agrees with her, you can go to the curia. It needs to be dealt with urgently and since the woman is teaching things contrary to the Magisterium of the Church, she needs to be removed from her teaching position.

No pope has ever spoken anything favourable about the ordination of women for all I know, so not only is there a chance that that woman is lying and making things up, but there’s a chance she’s mentally ill or at least in some serious trouble:
  1. She’s obsessed about some injustice of there not being female ordination etc.
  2. She’s making up papal pronouncements.
  3. She’s reinforcing her illusions with threats of sin and can’t bring up anything else than, “would be a sin”
I’m no head doctor, but it does look like she’s a bit troubled.

If that’s the case, she really shouldn’t be teaching.

If the priest supports her in her teaching, then the priest needs to be reported. If a diocese official supports him then, he also needs to be reported. If the bishop supports them all, he needs to be reported.

PatienceAndLove has the right idea. Sorry to all of you that just love Peace. There comes a time that the Faith must be defended.

Awwwww, thank you 😊
Although, I might not be being particularly patient or loving, but sometimes neither of those is the thing to do.

Agreed. A Director of Confirmation, or any other religious education teacher for that matter, has no business instructing children or adults in the Church that they need to fight for women’s ordination - or any other dogma on which the Church has spoken. It’s very unfortunate that many are put in this uncomfortable position in their parishes because some in charge have their own agenda.

I want to thank everyone who responded to this post. I copied the entire set and sent it to my friends (also encouraging them to join the forum.) There were some very good answers to the objections to the objections that I think will help her prepare well for the discussion. Thank you, dear on-line community, for your caring and response. Ever, Hope-full
