I love Formula One! Go Michael Schumacher!

“The Formula 1 World Champion’s steering wheel to His Holiness Benedict XVI, Christianity’s driver,”

Ferrari’s president donates proceeds from sale of top-of-the-line racecar to Pope Benedict XVI.

**NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Ferrari’s president Luca di Montezemolo met with Pope Benedict XVI Monday and gave him a check for http://i.cnn.net/money/images/euro.gif950,000 ($1.1 million). **

The money was raised from the sale of the 400th Enzo Ferrari, a car specially made to be auctioned for charity.

The top-of-the-line Enzo Ferrari was sold by Sotheby’s for more than double the asking price and Montezemolo offered to donate the proceeds from the auction to humanitarian relief.

At the meeting, Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher also gave the Pope a steering wheel with a dedication that read: “The Formula 1 World Champion’s steering wheel to His Holiness Benedict XVI, Christianity’s driver,” according to a statement released by Ferrari.

Now THAT would be a pretty cool sight! Can you imagine the fun JPII would have had with that about 20 years ago!!

Nice donation they made, but they probably got more publicity with the donation than they would have with traditional advertising.
