My fiance and I are both Catholics. However she was never properly Catechized. Now as I have been informing her on Church teaching on contraceptives she has had some trouble agreeing. Her mother was told by her doctor that she cannot get pregnant. Her mother got her tubes tied. I had to tell my fiance that this was wrong and she just will not agree. Frankly, she seems insulted at the prospect that Church viewing the situation as wrong. While she has agreed not to use birth control in our marriage, she is doing so for me but doesn’t agree with the Church teaching. What can I do? It does not seem she is open to changing her mind. Please pray.

Layperson:

I’m sorry to hear that you and your fiance are going through this dilemma. Pray for her to have a better understanding of the church’s teaching.

I’m praying for you both.

Prayerfully,

Renato

I recommend the 10 CD set called “Naked Without Shame”, by Christopher West. It is an excellent series on the Theology of the Body.

Dear Lord, please open this woman’s heart and mind to the truth of Your Church’s teachings on human sexuality. Help he to rely more on You, and less on herself. In Jesus name we pray.

Layperson,

When my husband and I married, we followed the Church teaching without really understanding the reasons underlying it. He eventually rebelled and chose what seemed to him the easy way out. Then we started to study the Theology of the Body. After a while, he came to truly regret his decision.

I encourage you and your fiancee to find a book or CD that teaches this theology. Christopher West is certainly the most prolific writer and speaker on this subject, but there are many others who might be better able to speak to her. I encourage you to search for resources online and in Catholic bookstores and study this with your fiancee before you marry. The more you both understand about God’s plan for sexuality, the better your marriage will be.

I promise.

Praying for you and your fiance.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
