It is much, much more serious than that, unfortunately. He almost certainly will not stop; he’ll be back the very first time his wife is too sick or tired to make love for a few days.

There is an even more serious problem as well. Masturbation lends itself to using one’s wife. If a man trains himself every single day for years in using sex for his own selfish gratification, and trains himself every single day for years in having sex with a fantasy rather than a human person, then what will happen when he has sex with his wife? None of that is going to suddenly and magically change. He will still he having sex for his own selfish gratification, and he will still be having sex with a fantasy rather than his wife. That isn’t healthy, it isn’t fair, and it certainly isn’t love.

Marriage is not where one transfers his disordered tendencies onto his wife so he is not “technically” mortally sinning. Marriage is where one overcomes all of his disordered tendencies for the sake of his beloved. It will be extremely difficult for that to happen here.

It sounds like he needs therapy. There is probably more to this than you or even he know.

Postpone the wedding till he takes care of this issue. Marriage is not going to cure wet dreams.

His fear is unreasonable, and the most effective help he can get is from a professional–preferrably one who approaches this from a Catholic perspective, as many secular folks do not recognize masturbation as the mortal sin that it is.
