“Iranian women’s soccer team disqualified by FIFA from match for wearing hijab scarves”

:dts: I really cannot understand that!, as sport agencies allow some women to play in the tennis courts almost naked, they should allow the other side of the story, if FIFA is concerned about the potential choking danger, then let those players and their country sign an obligation taking full responsibility about any accident that might happen.

😦 Poor woman in Islam, degrading by Islam from one side and now oppression by FIFA from another side…

The reason cited for banning hijab were safety reasons, that the hijab represents a choking hazard. Personally, I don’t see this as a realistic danger and, therefore, I believe the ban is motivated by cultural reasons.

Looking t the picture, it looks like they’ve got headscarves that don’t present any hazard. Health and safety has gone way overboard in recent years. While I understand FIFA have regulations they need to enforce in this case it just seems unnecessary.

That is both sad and discriminatory; from what I’ve seen here the style of hijab worn for playing sport is a close fitting head and neck cover without any trailing fabric, and girls wear them for playing sport from quite a young age.

I must say that as much as I am against the Quran I must say that this is not right .I dont think this had to do with any regulations . I think that it secret discrimination .

I also think this is discrimination. In my opinion, it’s not right that they can tell the Muslim women that they can’t wear their hijabs. As for Islam being discriminatory or oppressive against women, not all Muslim women view it that way. Many Muslim women actually enjoy wearing the hijab. Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t agree with Islam hardly at all except for on what they have in common with Catholics but I do strongly support the freedom of religion and I think that they should be allowed to wear their hijabs. If there really is a health or safety hazard, have them sign a paper claiming sole responsibility for any accidents and let them play.

It is a known from the on-set? In any league type of play the rules surely must be pre-set? Civil RIghts and court is the path.

You can’t show up for the game knowing your in defiance of the rules and expect sanction I’m sorry I don’t see the issue. We all sympathize with it.

“They had been “informed thoroughly” by FIFA, the world’s soccer governing body, that they would not be allowed to wear hijab scarves for safety reasons.”

I’m not saying its right, yet how it was handled wasn’t right either?

God Bless, Gary

Or maybe a political reasons…

🙂 I hope Muslim women read your replies and see how Christians are with them despite the difference in believes .

Where were those safety reasons before!!! I personally think it’s all about politics, not to mention the many stories about FIFA corruption.

It’s political Islam.
Like you said Sam_777, it’s all about political/ religious reasons.

Good publicity for muslem women: You can wear your thing on your head, and cover every millimeter of your body, and still loose in football! 👍

It could just be Iran… After all, there are other Muslim countries that play soccer, did they all get disqualified or did they come to play soccer and not demonstrate?

Sam,

I don’t know.

I’m not real familiar with Soccer or how well its ran. I seen Olympics mentioned and assumed the rules probly were established some time ago and world wide.😦

So I thought in terms of other sports like the NCAA here which preps Olympic athletes here. Its ran tight and well established.

Playing at a world level they are going to have 100% unified rules. FIFI I’m not familiar with though, and there may well be a political agenda?

God Bless, Gary
