Fifteen months after the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum: has your diocese officially said a big, fat, NOTHING about it??
Has silence been the reaction?
Has silence been the reaction?
Maybe there is some way that you can either get together with a priest who will work with you or start something on your own gathering signatures of people who want the TLM…a website or an ad or article in the paper you just mentioned. Maybe the Bishop just doesn’t know that there really is a desire for TLMHere in Baton Rouge, my bishop merely “acknowledged” it. Bureaucratic “kiss of death”. We have the old indult parish with a Low Mass on Sunday and that’s it.
My pastor says the TLM privately. I have offered my services as either an altar server or a member of the schola and nothing has happened.
Two weeks after the MP, the diocesan chancellor published an editorial in the diocesan newspaper railing aginst the MP and saying that “no one wants the TLM”. I suspect that between the acknowledgment and the editorial, a vast chilling effect was produced.
What does this have to do with the subject at hand? The Bishops of the Society of Saint Pius X were excommunicated for disobedience in their ordinations, not the Latin Mass. Do you pray that the excommunications of all those involved in disobedience against the Holy Father and Holy Mother Church be lifted??? Why?Please pray the Rosary for the lifting of the excommunications from the Bishops of the Society of Saint Pius X, and for a full integration of the Society into the life of the Church. Christ graciously hear us, Mary Seat of Wisdom pray for us, Father Almighty have mercy on us.
In the Diocese of Palm Beach the silence has been so loud it is deafening. Except for the Pastor of my local Parish who told me, "when I’m dead you can have the TLM here.
We have the TLM at St Martin DePorres in Jensen Beach, FL every Sunday @ 3:00 p.m. in Jan the time will be at 12:30 on Sunday. Some people come as far as Miami to this Mass.
Good question. Here in Baton Rouge St Agnes has had the indult Latin Mass since 1983. I’ve never heard anything about it anywhere else but I don’t suspect that it is because of some conspiracy. Many just happen to refuse to believe that there probably isn’t too much demand for the latin Mass here in the U.S.What should I expect my diocese to say?

Tim, when we joined the cathedral parish in 1983, there were 200 parishoners. We now have close to 2,000 families registered. I can’t help but think that we offer a reverent NO and the choir chants and sings in Latin except when the Bishop comes ( Christmas, the Triduum, and Pentecost excepted) has contributed to the expansion. I don’t believe Fr. Carville’s editorial. A Missa Cantata or a Solemn High Mass once a month at the cathedral with choir/schola would attract large numbers.Good question. Was demand really the issue with the Novus Ordo back in 1969? It wasn’t but we all got it anyway, at least those of us who decided it was best we continue making our Sunday obligation.Good question. Because we need more Holy Priests in the sanctuary to flush out the fluffy bunnys. What does this have to do with the subject at hand? Or maybe the bishop just doesn’t care. He wouldn’t be alone in being what I call “obstructionist” when it comes to the EF.Maybe there is some way that you can either get together with a priest who will work with you or start something on your own gathering signatures of people who want the TLM…a website or an ad or article in the paper you just mentioned. The pastor sounds like a lovely person. Funny thing is that the last time (until recently, that is) I assisted at a missa cantata (according to the 1962 missal) was in 1969 in Palm Beach proper. I don’t recall the name of the church, but it was the pastor’s 25th anniversary and he made some interesting remarks in favor of the EF and ad orientem, etc, that I’m sure did not sit well with the chancery. Apparently even after nearly 40 years those remarks still wouldn’t sit well with the chancery. In the Diocese of Palm Beach the silence has been so loud it is deafening. I don’t know the area very well, but I assume Jensen Beach is relatively close to West Palm. People traveling an hour or so from Miami sort of tells me the EF isn’t readily available there either. Hmmm. I seem to recall a motu proprio …We have the TLM at St Martin DePorres in Jensen Beach, FL every Sunday @ 3:00 p.m. in Jan the time will be at 12:30 on Sunday.
