that sounds like grounds for a malpractice suit.
1.) 28years ago
2.) Doctor who did it is dead
3.) Hospital it took place in shutdown over a decade ago
4.) Until very recently it was considered the norm to do this sort of surgery, how a child looked in the locker room while naked with other teenagers was more important than any functionality or medical complications or lack of ability to perform conjucal acts later in life. No one looks at their 6month old and imagines them having sex as an adult, it just doesn’t occur to them, what matters is the here and now and looking like every other child around them, unfortunately medicine took this to an incredible extreme.

I believe you.

But let’s say I didn’t because I have never met anyone in your situation even though I have met many people who exagerated their conditions because it was easier than working. How do you get the fakers out of the picture so we can see the truly needy?

Require medical proof, from multiple doctors if necessary. I have no issues with discussing my problems with many doctors. I’ve become numb, because the main times I get free healthcare are as a medical experiment (And I mean that literally, as my chromosomes are so odd, they like to study them sometimes).

If someone’s going to live off of public funds, I don’t think they should expect the level of privacy of those who can afford it on their own.

I was meaning in a more general sense. Well over a third of people in this counrtry are on some type of public assistance. I assume you are not asserting that one third of the US population has troubles to the extent of yours, right. I am guessing that those in true dire straights represent about 1-3% of the population. And the other 30% of public assistance recipients are milking the system and are undermining your case. Does that bother you?

I have no problem with massive social assistance programs, hence why I am moving to a socialist country.

I have very good friends there that would help me get my life restarted.
Oh, that’s great. Well, I hope that you are able to get to a good situation and can get treatment. I don’t know a lot about the system in Belgium. Is it mostly private like Switzerland and Japan, or is it mostly public like the UK?

Netherlands != Belgium.

Netherlands has a private system, but the only factor in price structure is age, existing medical conditions are not allowed to be factored in, all companies are required to play by those rules, so the cost averages out.

Yeah I knew that but for some reason my brain kept wanting to think you meant the Netherlands I don’t know why. Anyway it sounds kind of like Japan’s system where most facilities are privately owned but the government sets the price on services. This has actually been really good for Japanese technology in that they started finding ways to build radiology machines more efficiently to reduce cost, and now they’re exporting these machines because they’re more economical.

There is one way to get your coverage, but I don’t know how feasible it is for you.

Are you married? If so, is your spouse capable of joining the military? Dependents of servicemembers enjoy TriCare Prime and all the perks therein at no cost to the family. It will have no impact on one’s ability to serve as long as it doesn’t interfere with duty. When I got married, my wife had a child with Sickle-Cell Anemia. I reenlisted to get more experience for a better career, but also because I knew I would have a hard time finding coverage on the outside. Three years later, her health had stabilized, and we felt comfortable with me hanging up the uniforms for good, and when my time was up, I got my honorable discharge.

Food for thought. There is always a way.

That’s a whole different can of worms. Roughly half the states consider me and my SO married, the others don’t. Given my intersex status, some say I am male, some female, so it depends on where I life whether we’re married or not. The church will not marry me to anyone, male or female, it generally says intersex people should be celibate and single. The federal government doesn’t seem to recognize it and even besides that, my partner is ineligible for many many reasons.

Just to give folks and update.

I will be moving out of the country. There’s an issue with my medical debt (You cannot emigrate with high debt). However, there’s a way around that. I’ll be claiming refuge status when I arrive. Absurd sounding, but it’s been done before and for the very same reason even according to my lawyer.

pathias, I just wanted to say I have been following your posts. I don’t respond because really I don’t know what to say, but I want you to know I am filled with compassion for you. As a victim of medical mish mash, but to a much lesser degree, I can’t even begin to imagine the emotional battles you have had to struggle against not withstanding the physical ones. I wanted to remind you that although it may not be apparent when you are in survival mode, sometimes we cannot recognize the virtues in ourselves that we have gained because of our suffering. I wanted to let you know that I see these virtues in you. I bet it hasn’t been easy for you to arrive where you are, even if you still have more growing to do. But I believe … I know that God has good plans for you, that He has made provisions for you in this difficult journey and that if you trust in Him, He will take you the whole way and lead you home into His arms in Heaven, where your soul can finally rest.

I admire your courage (and I bet a bit of adventure) in emigrating to a country that you feel will have more opportunities for you. After all, isn’t that why we are all here? I wish you the best of luck, and I will be praying for you.

From other threads I know for a fact there are people on this forum who worry about what people in other countries think of the USA. While I myself rarely worry about that, I do have a sugestion for you Pathia when leaving and or arrive at your new home country. This is not going to be sugesting you become a camera hound, but don’t keep it secret why you are doing what you doing. If interviewed by media put it in no uncertain terms what forced you out of here. Tose who will whine and snivel about what you are doing should not of allowed your situation to get that desparate in the first place. Serves them right.

Flight.

Specifically flight on the 27th. My 3rd bankruptcy was finalized, so I am free to leave and I am doing so. I had a DVT (Deep vein thrombosis) last week though, hoping it will be ok to be on such a long flight. I’d rather die trying than being stuck in a rut here.

Best wishes and please let us know how it works out.

I hope for the best for you. I hope we are able to keep in touch. I dont rememeber specifics, and likely you don't remember either, but I remember you helping defedning things I propose in thread I have started on transsexual related issues in the past. Thankyou!

Flight delayed, I had two blood clots pulled out of my legs. One was the largest a doctor had ever seen, six inches, iiiick. I’m only 29, I don’t know why I have these things in me, I’m underweight, not overweight.

ER doctors advised me not to fly, as if I had any others they could travel to my head/lungs/heart and kill me. Not exactly what I wanted to hear -_-

Back in the hospital, been here since about Thanksgiving, don’t remember most of it though, so much for purging my debt. Not sure if moving is possible now, it hurts to even move my legs now, they’re not sure if I will be able to walk right again, but I want to prove them wrong.

My debt comes from things anyone can get. Pneumonia, gallstones, kidney stones, appendicitis, things like that. The reason I can’t get coverage is my ‘unusual and terrible’ condition. That in and of itself isn’t too hard to treat, the drugs are available overseas, covered and much much cheaper. I import illegally right now, but it’s getting confiscated more and more often by customs.

My condition would be fully covered in Canada, UK, just about any european country. Even Austrailia I believe, it is only here I’m stuck in a loophole. I could move to just about any 1st world country and improve my medical situation, which is why I am considering it so seriously now.
Sounds like a no-brainer to me; even if you go to Canada, at least your not too far from your family and friends in USA.

Canada doesn’t seem to allow those with pre-existing conditions as severe as mine to become citizens.
