Many of you know that I’m basically homebound. I have to rest often, don’t have much strength and all that.

I know that a part of my intense bought with depression right now is boredom. You can only watch so much tv and spend so much time online at CAF. 😉

Looking for fun new things to try that can be done at home and while sitting if possible. I can stand fine, just not for hours on end. I have to rest after about 15-30 minutes of standing usually. Activities that require only short periods of standing are fine. Spiritual things are also extremely difficult for me right now, but am open for suggestions. Also, I’m a big kid at heart so if you tell me to go to the store and buy a coloring book and crayons or play dough I probably would. 😛 😃

What about something crafty or artistic?
Painting?
Clay modeling?
Sewing?

UGH, I DREAM of the day I have extra time on my hands to pursue all these interests!

Or, what about music… do you play an instrument? If not, maybe call your local middle school band and ask for a list of private music teachers in your area!
I’d LOVE to have time to re-focus on my flute! 🙂

I second making rosaries!!

These can bring blessings to others, you can get the twine on line or buy it locally (sold as “catfish line” in sporting goods stores, our Wal Mart carries it).

Have you asked your Parish if you can help from home? Phone calls, addressing things, sorting things, folding and stapling - all sorts of little things that can be done at home.

Can you sew? There are organizations all around that make burial gowns and blankets for babies that die shortly after birth or are still born. Even if you don’t have a sewing machine stitching a blanket my hand is pretty easy.

Maybe you could take some classes online? That’s actually a great way keep busy!

I third the rosaries and I second the Wii option and Instruments!! 👍

I hear ya. The coloring book thing sounds great. Buy a couple of composition notebooks, some colored pencils, and maybe a fountain pen. Instant combination journal/playbook/scrapbook.

About the spiritual what about a book of shorter prayer (so as not to tax your endurance too much yet)? On my desk next to the puter I have Daily Prayers, a little booklet from Priests of the Sacred Heart.

Also, knitting socks is pretty cool and yarn is cheap. My first pair came out each a different sizes. Now I’ve got over a dozen—and both socks match. At least the sizes do. 😛

Ooh thanks everyone.

And to you wii fans hubby and I BOTH would love one. Just hasn’t been in the budget, darn all those prescriptions! 😉

Love to cross stitch. Not bad at it. 🙂 Learning to knit. Certainly not good at it. :o

As for the rosaries, I have yet to find a place to make them for free. Wouldn’t an organization just be tickled to death to have free labor? 🤷 And I also don’t know where to send them, there’s not a rosary making group at my parish either. But it is certainly a good idea. 👍

Yes, I have felt called to stuff envelopes or something for the church. Maybe I should call about that. :hmmm:

I also should tell you I have serious attention span problems. I mean about 15 mins or so and I’m ready for the next thing. 😊 I think this dates back to healthier days when I was very actively helping others. I was constantly moving from one thing to the next. I guess I still have that itch, even though I can know longer scratch it. 😉

Yes, I love to ‘play the child,’ like children love to play ‘grown up.’ 😃

Yes, short prewritten prayers are best. I’ve been trying to pray more for others here and that is helping some.

Knitting. I’m learning to knit right now. I’ve learned the basic knitting stitch and how to cast stitches. That’s as far as I’ve gotten. :o It’s pretty fun though, I think socks are a little advanced for me right now. :o

I’m so sorry that you don’t have ‘me time’ right now. 😦 Your day will come soon enough Emily. 👍

I played the piano as a child, gave it up as a teen, but have always wanted to get back to it. One day when we can get the lessons. Hubby has said maybe he’ll get me a keyboard and some music books for Christmas on year to play around with. I am a fairly good self teacher, especially the basics. 😃

Check out the Rosary Army web site.

You send them to the Rosary Army and they distribute.

A spool of the #36 nylon at Wal Mart costs less than $6 and will make many rosaries.

A few ideas for you…

Have you thought about maybe taking online classes at a local community college? Often they offer a variety of classes that you can take online at home, and because it’s a community college they are often inexpensive (less than $100/credit). They may have something fun you can take while still at home and sitting, and it’ll certainly cure any boredom you may have.

Also the blind are always looking for activities for children. You could take coloringbook pages and outline the lines with yarn so that they kids can color the pictures and have markers so they can stay inside the lines. Or you can read a childrens book and put it on tape for them.

Also you could try to make little stuffed doll like things for children of abusive homes. They use they dolls for the children to point out where they were abused. I know there is a pattern for it somewhere, and it’s fairly simple. I’ll have to ask my mother for more details on that (she’s always doing service projects).

That’s all I have for now, but if I think of anything more I’ll be sure to pass it along. Hope that helps cure some of the boredom. God Bless

I like pottery (with a pottery wheel even a child’s wheel works fine), china painting, learn an instrument, write or make a scrap book.
